Brian Bowen's family has been living at the Galt House, report says

Former University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino questioned assistant coaches recently as to why Brian Bowen’s family was living at the Galt House Hotel, according to documents released Monday by Pitino’s lawyer Steve Pence.

In an interview with Carl Christiansen, a private investigator working on Pitino's behalf, interim Louisville men's basketball coach David Padgett reportedly said that he and associate head coach Kenny Johnson were questioned by Pitino about why he wasn't informed that Bowen's family was living at the downtown Louisville hotel.

“(Pitino) told Kenny Johnson to check into the matter and find out how they could afford to live in the Galt House,” said the legal team’s document relaying Padgett’s account of the incident. “Padgett stated he surmises Johnson responded to Pitino on his own because Padgett was not present when Johnson provided the coach further information about the Bowen's (sic) living at the Galt House.

“Padgett stated at the time neither he or Johnson were aware the Bowens were living at the Galt House. Padgett recalls Pitino may have learned this as a result of a text from Brian Bowen's mother to Pitino.”

The Galt House offers extended-stay, suite apartments believed to be in the general price range of $2,500 to $4,000 per month.

Bowen’s mother, Carrie Ann Malecke, told Pitino by text message in September that the family had moved to Louisville and was living at the hotel, according to the documents, which stated that Pitino directed an assistant coach to inform University of Louisville athletics' compliance staff.

"There is no way Coach Pitino would have taken these actions if he had been involved in or had knowledge of the alleged bribery scheme," the document said.

Louisville Athletic Director Tom Jurich fired amid corruption scandal

Louisville trustees have fired athletic director Tom Jurich in the wake of its involvement in a national federal investigation of college basketball.

The Board of Trustees voted 10-3 on Wednesday to fire Jurich after 20 years as the school’s AD. Jurich, 61, had been placed on paid administrative Sept. 27 by interim university President Greg Postel. Louisville’s Athletic Association fired men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino on Monday.

Pitino has little to lose. Has no job and knows he’s likely to eventually get a long show cause from the NCAA. Pitino has already sued Adidas so he’s already at risk disclose his bank records, phone and email, etc.

Louisville at some point will settle just to get the Pitino mess out of the news.

Agreed and I think this is like a hooker (Pitino) blackmailing a married guy (Louisville) - he's hedging his bet on Louisville throwing money at him to make him just shut up and go away.

Normally, I wouldn't wish for a scumbag like Pitino to get a payday out of this, but I think Louisville needs to be punished and hurt as much as possible so that other smarmy little mid-major, commuter colleges might learn a lesson of what happens when you try to buy, borrow and steal from your students and professors to become something you were never meant to be. Louisville needs to be taken to the pain.
