In all seriousness, it would be near impossible to prove 'mandatory' vs. 'voluntary'

I still remember the story of the passcode for the WHAC being '4114' after the Florida debacle...kids who show up to watch film are not going to be denied.

This is really nothing.

if the rule isn't going to be enforced then why have it in the first place?

the issue here has nothing to do with the amount of time kids put in during the off season. it has everything to do with the kids putting in the time because they fear what their coaches will do to them if they don't, not to get better.

if you believe there is nothing wrong with the coaching staff being involved in voluntary practices. do you have an issue with head coach lead mandatory practices starting jan 10 running through the summer?

though i do agree with your last comment to a degree. as far as infractions go, this is more of a minor one.

Michigan players cry about how much their coach is making them work, Ohio State players talk about how much extra work it takes to be champions.

AP makes it seem like both teams are in the same situation. Awesome.

Yeah notice it wasn't any of the players still at Michigan. Tony Clemmons was the only one to cry about the extra work. Terrance Taylor just said they put in long Sundays. His 2 freshman who were interviewed just said they worked harder than they ever had, and that was spun around by Rosenberg.

weren't there players who are on the team but didn't want to be named who confirmed the claims?

edit: and Rosenberg didn't spin the freshman's direct quotes. I don't even know how you can do that.

Not true....Joe Schad reported a current player agreed with Toney Clemmons assesment, but wanted to stay annonymous.

And then you have Darryl Stonum defending the rigourous workouts and Rodriguez, while essentially admitting what Clemmons and Taylor stated was true..I doubt Stonum was trying to corroborate their stories, but he did....

I know of some who complained but its all speculation as to who went to the papers. I just know I'll be doing my part to keep us focused on Sept. 5th and take care of what we need to do.

I'm assuming those 10am to 10pm practices weren't held during the week due to classes, and I'd assume they weren't on Saturday's due to football games being played. What day does that leave?

In 1939, following a walloping at the hands of Michigan, Robert Hutchins, president of the University of Chicago made a speech to the Detroit Chamber of Commerce and was asked why he had eliminated intercollegiate sports at Chicago. His answer was that Chicago had been beaten by a team that had been recruited by the Michigan Athletic Department with the knowledge and support of the University's president, the administration and the faculty and that many of the players were not at the school for academic reasons, but because of their ability to play football.

"To be successful, one must cheat. Everyone is cheating,
and I refuse to cheat." -- Robert Maynard Hutchins, 1939

That was 1939 and Michigan still thinks it's everyone else's fault.

Two years ago Michigan dropped a game and scheduled App St. App St. had not lost a game in 3 years before that. Those guys knew how to win and they upset scum.
Last year scum just didn't have a team and this year its all new. RR has to show the B10 and the sports world that they can play. I don't think they gave App St. a rematch did they?

Dickrod says to a slotdot "If you come to Michigan I will make sure you play football on Sundays"

Slotdot "I want to play in the NFL"

Dickrock [chuckling to himself] "sucker"
