Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

...Bottom line, Rod was getting too close to the boosters and his agent Mike Brown was making too many demands. WV had to make a hard decision, and they did. Thus the divorce.

i haven't been keeping up with all the nitty-gritty of this story, but the guy makes it sound like WVU was going to let RR go before he left. otherwise what divorce is he talking about?

3) Rich Rodriguez, Michigan. Could revolutionize the Big Ten. Could also blow up in the face of a proud university who has had high-character coaches for MOST OF the past 39 seasons (if not more).

I guess getting into a drunken altercation in a restaurant is considered "high-character"...

On the Lighter Side - from The Bleacher Report

Rich Rodriguez's Wife to Guide Wolverine Spirit Team ...

In a press conference hastily convened this afternoon, University of Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman announced the hiring of Rita Rodriguez as the Wolverine's new Head Cheerleading Coach.

Rodriguez, accompanied by her husband (newly hired head football coach Rich Rodriguez) and sporting her new "All Access Pass" declined to address the media directly allowing her agent, Mike Brown, to speak on her behalf.

....

It is widely expected that Rodriguez will install her infamous "Spreadless Defense" at the University of Michigan. The storied defense is built around the Nickel Press philosophy, but to accomplish this new strategy changes in personnel and recruiting will be necessary.

All existing staff members have been advised to "look for opportunities" and all existing female squad members have been dismissed, forfeiting their scholarships.

"We have to have size and strength," said Brown. "We need girls who can secure that nickel between their knees until the football coach gets home," he added. "It's a new day in Michigan Cheering."

Brown also indicated that high school sensation Torella Pryorski?from somewhere in Pennsylvania?has spoken with Mrs. Rita and could serve as the foundation of the new squad. The 4'5", 28-pound Pryorski is said to be considering Ohio State but is also entertaining an offer for an immediate opening at any offensive line position for the Oklahoma Sooners.

...

Brown said he has entered into an agreement with a manufacturer for a significant discount on truckloads of peroxide.
"We want these girls to emulate their mentor," Brown said. In additon, "All cheerleaders will be required to live in a trailor park 17 miles outside of Ann Arbor."
Mrs. Rita will frequently check in on her girls when her husband?s whereabouts are unknown.

While details of the contract with Mrs. Rita will be made available next week, Mike Brown indicated that a buyout clause would not be an obstacle to her signing.

"If Mrs. Rita ever decides to leave the University of Michigan for any, and I mean any, reason the University will be required to pay her $4 million, and me just $2 million. It looks like we're gonna be here for?awhile."

the only thing "spirited" about Rita is the sheet you'd have to throw on her head before...

The Michigan contract is only a $4 million buyout if for some reason RR leaves before the '08 season. It goes down by half a million for every season he coaches.

1. Why would you ever want to leave Michigan? There can't be but another eight or nine programs that have the history, allure, to compete: OSU, Notre Dame, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee and possibly Florida.

2. All of which makes me wonder why Michigan put it in there when they may well want to drop this guy in a hurry.

3. Unless he has NFL ambitions....

Miami......maybe Florida State.....

Likely because they screwed the pooch on this hiring process from the beginning and needed to get something back or else be taken to the cleaners....so why not copy what WVU did? I'd bet the legalize is a cut and paste job too.....

3. Unless he has NFL ambitions....

:slappy:

Now THAT I'd like to see......

Lot's of glory in the 80s and 90s but before that, what, George Mira and Bert Reynolds?

what they lack in quantity they both make up for it in quality IMO...

Besides, the average memory span of an average CFB fan not named sluTiger only goes back to Charlie Ward and/or Miami in the late 80s at the most....

The decision to spurn the SEC for the ACC was a good one, with many years of only having to get up for Miami and UF, while taking a lock win on the other ACC opponents, that were seriously out-athleted by the Noles. An ACC loss even every three years was an oddity. Now that the ACC is more competitive, and with Va Tech, BC and Miami in conference, the deal is not the lock that it once was.

The FSU Dynasty of the 90s will never be repeated in my lifetime, IMO.

Ultimately the only real slam I have against DickRod is that he seems to regard a contract as "suggestive" rather than as binding. But that's enough for me to brand the guy as a disgrace. If you can't trust a man to abide by the terms of the contracts he has signed, what exactly can you trust him to do?

I have always respected the excellence and respectability of Michigan football; that is no longer possible.
