Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

if he is, so be it. I just wonder where they go from there. A lot of smoke and mirrors with Harbaugh since he took over at Stanford. Talking about how Stanford was his dream job due to his father going there or something.

Do you go back to a traditional coach with a pro style offense and set the program back again while trying to rebuild? Do you go with another spread type coach but one with a better defensive track record? Does that coach exist? Lot's of questions yet to be answered.

For now, it's all one big "I don't know."

I say bring in The Schematic Advantage (and a dozen Big Macs so he can have a snack).

For a dozen Big Macs scUM could easily get a new head coach:

That would be The Schematic Advantage

I don't think how a coach prefers to run his offense (pro-style vs. read-option) will, or should, impact the search. First, it's the defense that presently needs the most attention--and there is no short-term solution for that mess. Second, no matter the style of offense, there is a decent OL and a few skill players in place that any good coach could work with. Admittedly, they still need a RB, but perhaps there is a good one coming in (Dee Hart?).

In other words, tsun will attempt to get the best coach (in their mind) available. Given the horrible state of the current program, a few years of rebuilding is inevitable no matter who they hire. Hopefully, it will be a decade or so.

Lets theoretically say RichRod gets fired after this year...

Who do they hire? Who is available?

It would seem the list (in my mind) would be Leach, Harbaugh, and Miles. I'd kinda like to see Leach, because the program would be mediocre, and we'd see the Michigan QB pass for 600 times a season, hehe.

I don't have any inside info, but I think there is still a lot of bad blood with Miles from the last coaching search. It's funny you bring up Leach. I was going to say the same thing (as a joke).

Would they be able to use Devin Gardner as a pro-style QB until the new coach gets his guys in there?

If Harbaugh spurns them for the NFL, they'd be smart to go after someone like Patterson (TCU) or Whittingham (Utah). Leach would never play with the blue bloods, Miles is a doofus and Harbaugh might be a big attraction to some NFL jobs (Carolina and Dallas have already been mentioned).

I don't think Gardner's skill set is too far off from TP's, so I don't think you're locked into a spread-option type of offense with him. Denard, on the other hand...

They'd be better off with Paul Chryst or Don Treadwell than all those big names everyone keeps firing off. They need someone who understands Big Ten football and recruiting the midwest successfully.

Put in the Tater!

Nah but seriously, I don't care what offense a new coach would run..if he's half decent he could still go at least 5-7/6-6 in his first year ala matching what Rodriguez is looking to do in this his 3rd year. Really if you have a sound offensive philosophy you can mold it around the talent that you have there. Just because say Jim Harbaugh would prefer to run a more pro style type offense, doesn't mean that the read option offense is a mystery to him and he couldn't change his philosophy to utilize the pieces of available to him.

He has run the read option with Andrew Luck. I think he could figure out how to use an actual runner.
