Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

This should be changed to Greg Robinson official thread of humility. That guy sucks.

Is GR responsible for his best option at safety being two starters (Vinopal and Kovacs) that couldn't get a scholarship to any other D1 school? Isn't the head coach responsible for the roster?

My guess is he gets the pink slip the Sunday before the OSU-UM game. It worked out pretty well for Ohio State when Earle got canned.

Couple differences

#1 Earle's players liked him

#2 Earle's players had talent, at the very least playing defense wasn't completely lost on them.

Robinson does not want to run a 3-3-5. That has DR's fingerprints all over it.

Robinson will be the fall guy this year for a defensive philosophy that will not work in the Big 10. The 3-3-5 will not work here especially with a lack of talent and depth. The 3-3-5 against power running teams is just plain stupid and shows a coaches lack of knowledge.

RR decides to decimate a team that was still talented because it was his way or the highway. He decided to not gradually work his system in with the talent that was there. If this team still has Mallet, Boren and others they are a bowl team every year. Go Bucks

The details of his WVa buyout and etc escape me. Didn't TSUN advance him money with some declining scale for payback or something?

What would it cost RR to be fired?

He owed WVU $4 million for leaving early. TSUN agreed to pay $2.5 million right away in July, 2008. Link

RichRod agreed to 3 payments of $500,000, due at the end of 2010, 2011, and 2012. So the first one's due soon.

And let's all remember, he also has a $4 million buyout at TSUN, but that doesn't apply if he's terminated due to being guilty of a major violation. TSUN's contract with RichRod allows him to be terminated without any settlement payment if he's found to have been personally responsible for a major NCAA violation.

Last year, TSUN was accused of 5 major rules violations by the NCAA. They accepted 4 of them, and defended themselves against the 5th, which related to RichRod not fostering an atmosphere of compliance. They met with the NCAA in Seattle on Saturday, August 14, 2010, to discuss that 5th allegation. The final NCAA report on that will probably be released sometime this month, and if the NCAA determines that RichRod was guilty, TSUN should be able to can him and not have to pay him any further money.

Didn't scUM already try that with Lloyd Carr in 2007 where he announced his "forced retirement" right before the Ohio State game, and it didn't work for them?

If you fire RR in late November you run through the same tawdry drill you just ran through when you hired him. You're not going to a bowl game so why not take the time to do a real talent search?

That being said, you just hired a man to do an Extreme Makeover -- what you knew was a huge departure from your previous offensive and defensive strategy. You've given him three years to put a staff together and recruit players he believes can bring success to that "new" strategy. Wouldn't firing this guy set you back another two - three years before he could assemble a staff and recruit the kind of athletes he believes in? Seems like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

But, according to the Beav, everyone at scUM is "all in" for the spread. So, if they fired RR, then we could all laugh at the Michigan websites as they predict Chip Kelly as their next coach. Until he publicly states that he has no interest in the job.

Their second option, again per Beaver, will probably be Urban Meyer. Again, this will be a source of true humor to all on this website.

Then, in true irony, they'll turn to Jerry Moore (Appalachian State). He'll turn them down too.

Option #4 will be Mike Leach. He might even accept the job...and more hilarity would ensue.

I mean, the spread is unstoppable!!!!11!!!1!

(OK, they'll end up with someone like Les Miles.)

And I can't believe that someone hasn't pointed out on the scUM websites that someone hasn't mentioned that if they fire RR, they'll lose the huge strength and conditioning advantage they get from Barwis. I mean, it's obvious they're better conditioned--after they go down by 30, Michigan's been outscoring teams in the 4th quarter, after all.
