Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

It's a paradox, but a strong TSUN is in the interest of Ohio State. As long as they languish like this, the Big Ten will have this rep of "the new MAC". Just read the report of the Illinois and UC game. There is no mention that Illinois had one of its best offensive showings of the year, the Illini special teams meltdown, or the gifts from the refs. Instead, the Illini are portrayed as seeing an offense that was faster than anything they had seen all year. Personally, I am sick of it.

Wishing for TSUN to be weaker than Ohio State is one thing. In my mind, it is the natural order of things. But RichRod is taking TSUN to a "whole 'nother level of suckitude".

Think about this scenario. Next year, we are in a tight race for the BCS title game. We play a six loss TSUN game at home. They play their game of the year, as always, and we win by ten points. Ohio State fans are happy until they realize that the computers crucify us for the drop in SOS due to playing them. Ohio State's undefeated team misses out on a NC game because the computers penalize a win over a very weak opponent that ends the regular season and their effect on the computer power ranking (actually their score) of every other Big Ten opponent we played.

Ohio State's chances of getting into a national championship game will be enhanced if TSUN win every game but The Game every year.

Ah, but haven't you heard? Lots of scUM fans say they fully expect DickRod to win 8-9 games next year, especially having "his own players" and Devin Gardner and what not.

Steve, I'd be more worried about your scenario if I didn't look at the BCS top 10 and see TCU, Cincy and Boise St. all in the top 6.

Weakness of schedule is little more than a talking point, it seems. On the other hand, Ohio State was virtually crucified for its 2007 schedule whereas Florida gets to play Charleston Southern and Florida International without a bat of an eye (and in a season where the SEC proved to be weaker than expected).

Because he left like a slime-ball, shredding players' training documents ...

If he kept training logs at WVU the way he kept them his first 18 months at TSUN, that might have taken him about 30 seconds.

Due to the unholy marriage of the SEC and too-powerful ESPN.

For sure. Actually, to CBS' credit (never thought I'd say that) during the UF Flast broadcast they showed a stat about how Florida was outscoring OOC opponents 190 - 12 or some such, but they did add "now, granted, a lot of that was against Charleston Southern and Florida International...."

I was shocked.

Anyway, so as to stay on topic.... RichRod... you may be an ass, but I hope you stay at Michigan for 100 years.

We have 1 quality OOC opponent a year scheduled for the foreseeable future and we have the "name" recognition of being OSU. Plus the rest of the B10 is going to give you some ranked opponents.

Like others have said, SOS isn't an every year concern so you'll never find me wishing anything positive whatsoever on that program up north. They can stay below .500 for the rest of time for all I care.

You're much too generous. They can lose every game for the rest of time except their annual game against Notre Dame and I would be perfectly content.

I agree with the general philosophy that a strong Michigan is good for the conference, and certainly it has also been a strange year in most BCS conferences. However, if you look at the current rankings the 8, 9, and 10 teams in the country are from the Big Ten. Only one other conference has even two teams in the top 10.

We go undefeated this year and it wouldn't matter how strong UM was, we are still lined up behind the SEC winner and Texas with a chance to slip in if Texas stumbles.

...thought it worthwhile to cut and paste this tidbit from a piece about Brian Kelly by Dan Wetzel (a decent writer but knows precious little about sports):

This isn't Rich Rodriguez going to Michigan and demanding the roster change dramatically for him rather than he change even a little bit for it. Rodriguez wants to run the spread and the spread only and if that meant watching a guy such as Ryan Mallett, possibly the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft, transfer to Arkansas, then so be it.

Of course, so be it meant 1-7 in Big Ten play for the Wolverines.

Kelly has the right stuff for Notre Dame - College Football - Rivals.com

Anyone have opinions on the Rich Rodriguez NCAA violations/ less than decent season for scUM/ should he be on unemployment/ who would replace him then if fired/resigned.

Doesn't bother me either way, I like to watch Rich cry and squirm

Given that it's Christmas and all... I just want to say thanks to RR and his staff for all the great things that they've given us over the last couple of years. Just off the top of my head:

1) A bumbling coach that's easy to hate.
2) Enough optimism for the TSUN fanbase to get thier hopes up... only to have them dashed.
3) 0-2 and counting.
4) Justin Boren -- Those who transfer play in BCS games.
5) Wangs
6) Barwis!!!!!1!1!!!eleventy

I could go on and on... but I'm gonna go get ready for Christmas. I think that the kids are starting to wake.

Merry Christmas to all and to all another great year of Buckeye football!

:oh:
