Well, sheeeeeyit Elrod, just what does constitute a "tradition" if not something that has "been done that way since forever"?

It would most certainly have to be something that is important.

So I guess the players touching the M club banner at games isnt such a big deal either? I mean, its just a few words anyway. Perhaps they should instead touch a statue devoted to their new head coach.

wait... that won't be for a few years.

Something that has been done for a long time, and has some kind of story behind it or a reason for having started or is something that is unique to the school or identifies it some way.

Ask people which school in the Big Ten hands out the #1 to deserving wide receivers, and all Michigan fans and many others too will say, "Michigan." Ask who hands out gold pants and the obvious answer is Ohio State. Ask them which school in the Big Ten names their captain before the season, and the answer would probably be "I don't know, all of them?"

So again we ask, just because everyone else does it, doesn't make it a tradition? Because I'm having a difficult time following this logic...

Are you saying that if Indiana ran onto the field and touched the M club banner it would be a tradition for them?

I'm confused about how this works.
Apparently, it's only a tradition if nobody else does it. At least that's how I'm understanding it. That, of course, eliminates 'Hail to the Victors' because I know of a handful of High Schools that use that as the basis of their fight song. Also eliminates the winged helmet thanks to Delaware.

Nonsense. You're picking and choosing criteria now for your convenience. I'll repeat for possible retention:

What do you think of when you hear The Victors?
