Indeed it was. Mainly during the Tommy Bowden era and early Dabo years. Clempson was that program that was never very good but would often be in games against better teams and get your hopes up that they would pull off the upset before losing due to some self-inflicted calamity.

That's a whole different meaning than I remember it, but yes, that works, too. Seemed like every year you heard how Clempson was going to be a strong team only for them to lose bad early season games and going on to finish, like, 7-6. Here's hoping that use of the term is about to experience a renaissance.

After Simple Jim's smack before the season and then using covid to duck his beating and possibly keep us out of the playoff, I think this Game is going to be brutal in a way that makes the last two seem quaint.
