Reverend Dabo Swinney (HC Clemson Tigers - GSCS), random mid-century cars, and steroids

So........ other "good" coaches recognize weak spots on their roster and use the transfer portal to add skill and depth. Dabo refuses to shop the transfer portal and his team is now struggling as a result. When reporters ask him why he hasn't used that tactic, he throws a hissy fit and scolds the reporter for asking him a question that he has already answered (and not really answered, just said he wasn't going to do it).

Hmm.... stuff like that might make someone start to question Dabo's ability to recruit effectively, develop recruits once they arrive on campus, or recognize and address lack of quality depth. You know - stuff "good" coaches can do with relative ease. Either that, or he's just gotten lazy and is being out-worked.

Did I miss your font change? By almost any measure you can find, Clemson has played and recruited at a pretty high level for quite a few recent years. They beat Ohio State twice in playoff games. Won a championship. Put guys in the NFL. Sold jerseys and such. That staff has known what they’re doing.

The portal might have been helpful to Clemson for this season, or it might have added to their problems…whatever they really are. (Having some early season problems going from a consensus No. 1 NFL draft pick QB to a mostly inexperienced guy is not too shocking. Or maybe they have some behind the scenes issues?) Dabo is admittedly an acquired taste …and not mine. He seems to regularly spout off in unusual directions. When he had playoff caliber seasons the press and fans just smiled and chuckled when that happened. Now that he’s having a lesser season they’ve not smiled as much.

For Buckeye fans it’s time to enjoy the show!

Fucc Dabo!

I respect Saban and I laugh at Jimmy up north, but this fucking fraud deserves to go down in flames and that team's fans deserve all of the misery coming their way.
Saban is a soulless machine that devours souls with no emotion. He is what he is and makes no excuses for it. He's like a great white shark. That's respectable. Dabo is a fake, smarmy douchebag. Everybody hates a fake, smarmy douchebag.

Saban is to CFB what Belichek is to the NFL.

Belichek might need to earn that comparison by winning a championship without his greatest player.
Not really, Belichek's status as a coach is still cemented. Because even with Brady he could've led that team into the ground with bad FO moves and the fact that he still kept the ship on line speaks to his greatness. In short term, people will want to say it was all Brady, but the moves of letting guys go at the right time and signing players like Welker, Edelman, Hogan, Burkhead, drafting Gronk and Hernandez for the unheard of 2 TE system are all big moves that put Belichek on the the NFL HC Mt. Rushmore.

Agreed.

I always thought Dabo was winning those games and had no idea how or why he was winning those games. Like Star Wars Episode I - little Anakin is flying in that stupid ship and he says, "Let's try spinning, that's a good trick!" Then he blows up the whole space station. Dabo looks like he's saying, "Let's try this play." Then his quarterback gets it to work, and the nation says how Dabo did a great job coaching out there, when in fact, he knows nothing more about the strategy than I do.

Note that I'm not saying that Dabo doesn't know what he's doing. I'm saying that it appears to me that he doesn't know what he's doing.
I wonder if you could replace Swinney with Harbaugh and get the same results?

If by "same results" you mean four straight national title game appearance and two national titles...fuck no. If you mean this year's 4-3 start with their three wins against I-A opponents coming by six, three, and three points...probably.

I mean if you put Watson and then Lawrence on Jimmeh's teams, if he'd make it to 4 NC's.
"Fuck no" is probably right, but they both seem like they're just stumbling in the dark out there. I'm probably not giving Dabo enough credit. But still, eff that guy.

You make a good point; to be accurate it was by 6 over both BC and GT, and by 3 over Syracuse.
