Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

Reading RZ is like listening to a bunch of child siblings tell each other why their dad is the bravest, strongest most awesome dad ever. It's disgusting.

This thread would make their eyes bleed. Thanks for keeping us grounded guys.

Yeah, that place can be one big circle jerk. I was posting over there again (I think I had a stoke or something), and some idiot was trying to convince people that PED's don't help baseball players. He even went so far as saying PED's didn't even help swimmers or weight lifters because world records have been broken since PED use was rampant. That place just goes full retard sometimes, and as Kirk Lazarus will tell you, you never go full retard.

I about got into a discussion with people who wanted to bat Joey Votto in the #2 spot, and wanted to bat three lefties in a row at the top of the order.

The only thing more retarded than putting [Mark May] right-handed batters in the mix to avoid LOOGYs in that late innings is intentionally putting all of your lefties together at the top of the order thinking you can run up the score whenever you want on RHPs.

I'm going to have to avoid RZ if I want to make it to opening day.

I have survived there since 2004 only by going into read only mode and coming here to vent.

It used to be worth it for the insight but SABR and the minor league coverage are so mainstream now it's really not necessary anymore.

I use

MLBTR

Doug Dirts MiLB site Reds Minor Leagues.com

Fangraphs, Hardball times, BP for general baseball/stats stuff

Mark Sheldon's blog and the official MLB sites

and that gives me what I need for 99% of my baseball fix (which I then combine into a thoughtful and deep analysis here at BP :wink2:)

I'd be interested to hear any that others find useful

WTF?!? Blow it up Walt! These guys freaking suck. Might as well start all over and now we don't even have a fucking minor league influx to work with. We can't even beat the Indians??!?!? Pitiful.

Just getting warmed up for the season. :wink2:

I wonder if we'll see another a mysterious votto knee injury again this year....

They turned a meniscus tear into a major fucking production last year so I'm thinking anything worse than a scrape/deep bruise and he's an amputee.

Yeah - my friend and I were at one of the Reds/Indians games last year (it was the game where Choo hit two homers off of Leake) and even then it appeared that he was running like an old man.

Makes you wonder at any rate....

Glad to see Hanny starting off like the professional he is. Has to be a top 10 underrated player in all of baseball.

"Hanigan's on-base percentage is not only good, it's very, very good. He's hit .260, .270 or better every year of his career. He walks a lot. He throws extremely well. The Cincinnati Reds' ERA with Hanigan catching last year was 3.04; when he wasn't catching, it was up around 3.8. [...] Ryan Hanigan may be the most underrated player in baseball."

Yeah all joking aside, a meniscus tear just doesn't add up to what we've seen from Votto.
