Judging from BP's tweet, an extension was signed....

there's some rumors on what the contract is, and if they're true...the Reds organization is run by idiots who don't care about money

the rumored contract is 6 year, $72.5 Mil

Ian Kinsler just signed an extension - 5/$75m. That deal was probably going to be a benchmark for what Phillips would want. The rumored number is coming from Leatherpants, so take that FWIW.

Kinsler is a little younger and a better player overall, but Phillips has been more durable. Phillips also adds value with his community engagement and thru Twitter. He can be the public face of the franchise that Votto seems reluctant to be. Some of the things that he's doing to generate good will for the Reds, you just can't get other players to do. I think that will pay dividends for the Reds in the coming years at the turnstiles and in their next TV contract. The Reds need to keep him for that reason and he deserves to be rewarded for it.

As for the bolded part, I'm glad for it. The Reds have been run by idiots for my entire life. I'm not counting on that to ever change. At least now they're not being tightwads on top of it.

Somebody on RedsZone already chimed in with, "Things are gonna start looking ugly in 2016."

Reds fans sound like assholes when they say shit like that.

After 15 years of "we're building for the new ballpark" and "we don't have the money to keep Chris Reitsma" people are going to get upset because things might go tits-up in 4-5 years? Why not choose to enjoy the 4-5 years instead of worrying about what comes after that?

When you get on an amusement park ride, you don't get to stay on it forever. You can either spend your time worrying about how much your life is going to suck when the ride is over, or you can enjoy yourself until it stops and then get back in line and wait to ride it again.

#Reds source confirms Phillips' deal. The 6-year, $72.5 million figure is correct. "But it's not that simple."

Give Phillips credit: He took a lot less than Kinsler. Not that he'll starve on $12 million a year. #reds
I had already been planning to go to the game tonight - meeting the wife downtown, cashing in the first of my Flex Pack vouchers.

First game for me was either going to be last night or tonight. When I saw Bailey was throwing last night and Leake tonight, the decision was easy.
