Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Leake on the mound vs the Tribe today.

Phillips
Cozart
Votto
Ludwick
Bruce
Rolen
Stubbs
Mesoraco
Navarro

Interesting lineup. Like it all except we have Ryan fucking Ludwick in the cleanup spot. Go Dusty Go!

Tough first inning for Leake and co. 1 hit by pitch and gave up a double. Definitely throwing strikes other than that HBP. Error by Brandon Phillips, LOL, yes its spring training. Jay Bruce guns out Cabrera at home for the third out. Definitely can still gun it. Lets see how they do with the stick.

Phillips doubles. Cozart strikes out. Votto lines out and they double off Phillips. Sounds all too familiar.

Its spring training lots of things will happen. I'm eager to see how the new additions will factor in. Dusty will lose at least 10 games this season with his mismanagement and a couple of the guys we don't expect much from will win some games out of nowhere. We need Bruce to pull his head out and get some consistency out of the every day lineup. I really believe the pitching will be excellent up and down the staff. I'd like to see someone take over in left field for at least 3 years. Someone will also have to emerge as the new 3B. Should be interesting to say the least.

Fantastic 4th inning. Now the lead in the 5th. This team should be able to score a bunch of runs this year if Dusty doesnt baker it all up.

not so much that, but it'll all depend on the hot/cold streaks of the likes of Jay Bruce, BP, Rolen.

And if Bruce and Stubbs can cut down on the K's

Soto with some yardwork in the 5th. Rated the best power-hitter in the organization, but stuck behind Votto at 1st. Could be the replacement should they not be able to resign Votto. See if he can play left field!!

Yep. He's the reason the Reds could afford to part ways with Alonso.

6-6 tie.

Janish (which is Spanish for "worthless sack of shit") K's with Soto on deck to end it after booting a double play ball in the top of the 9th that allowed them to get the 6th run.

Reds fever....catch it.

From Mark Sheldon

The season is officially underway, Dusty teaches the art of hitting;

Going deep in the count and all of that is good. But if you have a team prone to strikeouts, you don?t want to go deep in the count. It?s too hard to hit like that. Roy Campanella used to tell us you only hit one ball at a time, take a good pass at it and don?t miss it

It's not going to change so I just laugh at it anymore. What the hell else are you going to do?

ok, I'll bite...not sure exactly what's wrong...if you suck at hitting and strikeout a lot, wouldn't you go up there and try to hit anything that's a strike instead of taking a strike to wait for a better pitch?
There's probably some cause and effect issues going on with looking at it that way; Going up there swinging at everything leads to more strikeouts. Good hitting involves forcing the pitcher to make a mistake. If you swing at all of the pitcher's marginal strikes you are probably not going to be a good hitter.

This.

Take Drew Stubbs for example. From what I saw last season, and previous seasons, he seemed to swing at anything in or around the strike zone. Then again, how much of it had to do with the fact that he batted leadoff countless times (when clearly he didn't belong in the #1 spot).

Players like Votto, Phillips (to an extent), Rolen, and Bruce (seems to be seeing the ball MUCH better) have patience in the box and swing at good pitches but aren't afraid to go deep into the count. Bruce worries me a bit when he gets to 2-2 or 3-2 in the count. He seems to panic a bit when he has two strikes.
