Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Man, there isn't a better pitcher in the game right now. Chapman is CRUISING.

Been flipping back and forth between the Western Conf. Finals and this, so I could see the Cuban Missile embarrass 3 batters.

9 pitches...

Last year at this time, we'd be looking at pitch #20 with only 1 out.

Only Dusty Baker and the Reds would pull this one out of their hats and remember that resident punching bag Costanzo was 1-17 in the majors. "Negron, 26, did not get called up because of his bat. He was hitting .212/.291/.336 at Triple-A Louisville. He was 0-for-his-last-21."

Alright, so add yet another baseball statistic that I don't understand to the list..... :shake: Isn't 5,417,938 stat categories enough?!

If you are referring to the .212/.293/.336 stat it is called a slash line and represents: Avg./On Base Percentage/Slugging Percentage. Essentially these stats say that Negron does not get very many hits, as per his low average; does not draw an excessive amount of walks, as per his low on base percentage; and when he does get a hit, it is usually not for extra bases, as per his low slugging percentage, which measures a batters power through extra base hits.

That is all at Triple-A. Stubbs' slash line this season is .235/.300/.373., so you can imagine how poorly Negron has been hitting. Hopefully we don't see much of him at the plate and hopefully Dusty doesn't send him up to pinch hit with RISP, as he did with Constanzo yesterday.

I sort of feel bad for Costanzo. This was his 5th year in AAA (he seems to bounce between AA and AAA, and he started this year in AA). He finally put up some good numbers in AAA, gets called up after 7+ years in the minors, and totally craps the bed. Well, at least he got one hit in the majors. That is a lot more than most baseball players can say.
