Why does a first baseman need a day off? There are days off during the week and you can always pull him during a sure win, if there are such things for the Reds. WTF?! A 20 game stretch is tough for any team surely but Jeebus Duhsty you fuctard, its Joey Votto!!!

Cueto could see the writing on the wall again last night - no fucking run support. He has one bad inning and has no chance to win.

Someone has to rid Cincinnati of the cancer that is Dusty Baker.

I honestly cannot believe the backlash, from the Reds fanbase in general, that has come from giving Votto one day off. It's one day out of 162. Everybody needs a day off, especially Votto who has played more than a full seasons worth of consecutive games dating back to last season. It was time for him to get a rest and this was the best time to do.

i think most fans are just finding anything to lash out against because the offense is so putrid without votto in the lineup.

Not me. I'm lashing out because he's a first baseman and there's a day off today! Give him the day off in the middle somewhere if he needed it, which I'm not sure why he would, not at the end of the stretch when there is a day off following anyway. When Duhsty says "we talked about it" he means he told Joey he was going to get a day off. Votto is on record as saying he never wants to not be in the lineup. There are ways to give him rest without wrecking team momentum. Fuck Dusty and his apologists.

There's no excuse for taking a Top 5 MLB player out of the lineup when his replacement is a guy who was an independent league slump away from hanging drywall for the rest of his life.

There will be time for Votto to rest when they have a passable backup for him.

I agree.

It speaks more to how bad the rest of the lineup is than a true irrational desire to see Votto play 162 games. Just saying right now, they don't win but a game or two of any DL stint Votto goes on.

As for just how bad the offense is I submit to you, NL (16 teams) team wOBA ranks by position;

1B-1st
RF-4th
C--7th
SS-10th
LF-12th
2B-13th
CF-14th
3B-16th

Team Runs scored: 4th worst
Team Runs allowed: 4th best

Which leads me to conclude;
A) Its the offense stupid
B) 3B, CF and LF are offensive balck holes and, forget what he should do or has done in the past, YTD Phillips/2B is just as much a black hole as anyone.

The good news as it were, LF should theoretically be the easiest position to fill with a bigger bat and 2B has a track record for being much better than that.

They better not stand pat at the trade deadline, this team is too offensively challenged. The bench gets better when guys like Heisey and Frazier are on it (where they belong) rather than starting.
