Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

For all the stuff that has gone wrong on this trip, the just got a series win and a shot at a sweep tomorrow. It's a guaranteed .500 west coast trip now - they're playing with house money tomorrow as far as I'm concerned.

Did I miss anything?

:tongue2:

Glad I didn't stay up for that aneurysm but very glad to see they pulled it out. Nick Masset needs to unfuck himself but it seems like we are seeing signs of the mail room clerk bucking for promotion.

Unless Dusty just cripples them with a getaway day special they should have a good shot at the sweep with Wood against Stauffer.

I hope that was the start of a turnaround for both Bruce and Stubbs. Bruce especially - the discipline he showed in his last couple plate appearances was in stark contrast to his approach over the last several games.

I don't think this has been discussed much recently, but Cueto and Bailey threw a few innings recently and will start their rehab assignments soon. Bailey doesn't have any options left, and Cueto will definitely go back into the rotation. So, what would you do?

Maloney back to AAA is an easy one. Now you have one more to send down. Personally, I send Leake to AAA. I would put Bailey and Cueto in the rotation and put LeCure in the long relief role. Don't forget that the Reds also have Dontrelle Willis in AAA who just threw 6 shut out innings too. You could put him in long relief, and send LeCure back to AAA in order to keep pitching in a starting role.

Interesting. And freaky.

Austin Kearns = Jay Bruce?

http://www.espn1530.com/pages/lancesBlog.html

Kearns/Bruce

Game: 365/366
PA: 1467/1452
AB: 1268/1305
R: 195/193
H: 337/333
2B: 71/57
3B: 6/8
HR: 55/68
RBI: 213/183
SB: 13/14
BB: 171/130
SO: 327/336
BA: .266/.255
OBP: .360/.324
SLG: .461/.467
OPS: .821/.791

There is a difference. Kearns went to crap in his 3rd year, while Bruce had his best season in his third year. Way too early to think Bruce won't match or even exceed last years production, and if he does that he will be ahead of Kearns.

Since Cueto and Bailey will both get rehab assignments, the team is probably two weeks away from having to make that decision.

I'll defer my own personal judgment until I see LeCure's next two starts. Beginners luck? Maybe. But I'd go with the hot hand until he pitches himself out of the rotation.

A lot can happen in the next couple weeks. Somebody might get hurt or start getting shelled and make the decision much easier. The whole never going to the minors thing is a nice story for Leake, but that's not a reason to keep him with the big club.

I think LeCure needs to be in the 'pen. I think that's his future as a big leaguer. The alternative would seem to be putting Leake or Willis in that spot. I like Leake as a starter but not as a reliever. I'm not sure I like Willis for anything yet.

As of right now, bring both back slowly. I agree with Maloney and Leake going back to AAA but LeCure has pitched well for the Reds so why take him out of the kitchen when his cooking has been good? Keep him as a starter as long as he is pitching well. Bring Bailey and Cueto back slowly and put them back in the rotation only when they are completely healthy. Adjust as needed based on performance. Hell! Put EV in the pen and put Homer and Johnny back in the rotation. EV has been our least consistent starter other than Leake.
