Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

As of right now, bring both back slowly. I agree with Maloney and Leake going back to AAA but LeCure has pitched well for the Reds so why take him out of the kitchen when his cooking has been good? Keep him as a starter as long as he is pitching well. Bring Bailey and Cueto back slowly and put them back in the rotation only when they are completely healthy. Adjust as needed based on performance. Hell! Put EV in the pen and put Homer and Johnny back in the rotation. EV has been our least consistent starter other than Leake.

I am no where near putting EV in the bullpen. That would be the worst place for him, and outside of his 1st inning issues, he has been close to unhittable. That is something that will not be cleared up by putting him in the bullpen. I would give him about 2 months before I consider doing anything with him.

Perhaps this is more my philosophy, but I absolutely despise putting any young pitcher in the LR role. You set young pitchers back when you do that. They need to get used to pitching every 5th day, be it in the majors or in the minors. In my mind, Travis Wood is that guy even if he struggles in his next couple of starts. He is the most ready of the young pitchers to give you 100 pitches a game and 200 innings (he did it last year). LeCure has not pitched more than 155 innings (which was 2008). Leake has even less, and I think he still has things he needs to work out in the minors.

I suppose I'm not much for "the hot hand" way of thinking if you have other options (especially this early in the season). Bailey cannot go anywhere, and I don't want to screw with him by putting him in LR. Same thing with Volquez. Cueto and Arroyo are locks for the rotation. That leaves 1 spot for Wood, Leake, and LeCure. In my mind, Wood would have to completely fall apart to send him down or to long relief instead of LeCure.

I also mentioned Willis because I think he would be the best suited for the LR role (as long as his control is not all over the place, but who knows).

Anyway, it's just a talking point. Sure, things can change. Just throwing it out there.

The thing is, this already is the slow approach for Cueto and Bailey. I'm not sure how much more you can slow things down at this point unless they re-aggravate something.

LeCure has been good, but I think we should treat his performance as a bonus rather than an indication of being deserving of a spot in the rotation. Keep in mind his starts have come against two of the worst lineups in the league, and one of those games was in a pitchers' park.

That is part of my thinking. LeCure was not even a thought to make the 5 man out of spring training. There is a reason for that. I don't see any way they would replace EV, Cueto, or Arroyo with LeCure (barring injury). Bailey is stuck in the majors, and I don't see them putting him in the pen. That pretty much leaves the 3 as I mentioned, and it would take a lot to put LeCure ahead of Wood in my mind especially since there will only be 2 or 3 more starts for them before this needs to be decided.

On a side note, Fred Lewis is going on his rehab assignment. Of course I think that one is a little easier. Buh bye Juan Francisco. Cairo takes the role of part time 3B.

Of course with all of this there is one team really happy....the Louisville Bats. They are already 5-1. They get to add Juan Francisco and 2 more starters really soon. That will be one heck of a AAA team.

Hopefully JF goes down to L'ville, rakes and gets traded to someone that likes fools gold. He should not be part of the Reds future.

Lineups are out. Teh Dusty decided that since he started Bruce in every game, no matter how miserable the slump was, Bruce could now use the day off after finally stringing together some decent AB's last night.

I'm sure he has some perfectly good rationale about tall white guys, slow short guys, black guys in the sun....something. :shake:

Bruce supposedly tweaked his groin so that's why he's off today.

Can you imagine if BB73 had a job where he could get a day off work for "tweaking" his groin? I can hear the phone call to his boss now saying the new Victoria's secret catalog showed up in the mail and he might be out for a while.
