Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

 The FSN scoreboard guy just wants this game to be over. For a while the score was 10-4, which was changed a short time later to 9-4. It's really sad that the Reds are playing the same team who went thru the same grueling 19 inning game last night, yet the Phillies are able to muster up 9 runs, and the Reds a measly 4... AGAIN. It's like that's the cap for the Reds. Any more than that, it's time to shut it down. :shake:

once Bailey had to go out the L was inevitable , the pen was on fumes, and really couldn't use anyone else, yea only 4 runs, which pisses me off, but it was against cliff lee so there is a sliver of hope, with Lee able to go 8 and Bailey only what 4 (due to spasms) it was gonna happen...time to limp into ATL now...like I said a day off can't come soon enough

Once these jackoffs fall more than 5 games out you should start the sale.

They simply aren't good enough to overcome it.

.....and I have absolutely no idea who to sell or how Walt can fix this team.

They needed progression from the starters (plural) to take the next step forward as a franchise, they not only haven't progressed they've regressed. With the starting pitching so many teams can run out there and our boys being nothing but middle of the rotation "meh" we are in bad shape. Also, unless Chapman can make rapid strides toward being a dominant starter there is zilch in the minors for the foreseeable future.

So what do you do? Sell the farm for Felix Hernandez (if you even could)? The starting 9 isn't that strong, BP/Votto and Rolen could all be gone in the next couple of years.

IMO we are in a modified version of the same spot we spent the better part of the last 10 years in. SP isn't as dreadful but it still isn't good enough and the economics of baseball make it cost prohibitive to buy what they seem incapable of growing-top shelf starting pitching.

I know people are pissed about SS and LF but to me it really all comes down to the SP being mediocre at best and no in house relief in sight. You can fix a couple of offensive positions with the talent the Reds have down on the farm. If Walt can fix the pitching problems with what he has on hand he's a genius (and sitting still hoping they get better isn't fixing anything).
