And the fact that Phillips and JR are not really doing much while Dunn is getting walked at an amazing rate. CP is just an absolute black hole of offense.

After slow starts Votto and EE are tearing it up. Kepp is solid.

I've never been as high on BP as most are, he's a living breathing Willie Mays Hayes to me.

I say start considering the fact that JR is probably gone after this year and how he can be moved during the season to make permanant room for Bruce.

My 4 corner offensive guys moving forward with this club are Bruce, Dunn, EE and Votto. Unfortunately thats 3/4 lefty but its a damn good young nucleus regardless.

That means 2B, SS, C and CF must all be RH and at least one must have some pop to go with EE's. I say keep Kepp and his limited range at SS with BP at 2B and there are two plus RH bats.

C and CF must now be RH and the CF must be a good OBP guy at the very least with a plus glove. C just has to be a good defender any offense at all from MLB catchers is a bonus. Ross is RH and hits 20 or so mistakes a year out if nothing else when healthy.

so by late this year or '09 I want to see:

OBP and good glove CF
Kepp-SS
Bruce-RF
Dunn-LF
EE-3B
Votto-1B
BP-2B
Ross-C

The only thing really missing is the good defending, good OBP, RH, center fielder.

As this applies to the Reds: The offense hasn't been good, and this offense with this group of players will never be great, but it will certainly be better once Phillips and E5 start producing consistently. Bruce appears to have broken out of his funk, and that alone was a huge factor in taking 2 of 3 from the Cubbies. Willie Mays-Hayes is obviously pressing to hit 30 HR all in one day, and I'm certain E5's picture appears beside the term "slow starter" in the dictionary.

On Phillips: I loved seeing him run over the catcher. I actually don't mind his punk behavior either. I think it's good to see a little bit of swagger once in a while, and I'm confident that if it's too much that Dusty & Rolen will put him in his place. Of all things, that the one aspect of a team that I expect Dusty to manage well. What I didn't like was the move to try to take third that preceded the play at the plate. Even without the interference it was a total Willie Mays Hayes move, he just got bailed out.

Let me speak in defense of Phillips for a bit. I like him, other than his Willie Mays Hayes tendencies.

Edit: And I'm with jlb on Willie Mays Hayes. He may be a cockhole, but he's our cockhole and I'll defend him. In this era of free agency he seems to be one of the few guys happy about where he's playing and taking pride in what that means.

I've called him much worse than Willie Mays Hayes on many occasions.

I will admit that his use of social media has made me see him in a much different light. I'm not much for hot dogging or undisciplined at bats but he is who he is and I think he's a pretty god guy. Anyone who can laugh/make fun of himself goes up a lot in my book for that alone.

Like someone said earlier this year, he's probably still a bit of a fucktard but he's our fucktard and until the next time he hacks at the first pitch I've made my peace with BP.

Actually, they've had dollar hot dogs for the last 2-3 years for every game. They are at one particular concession stand on the fan plaza along the first base line. You either have to get there really early and stock up or stand in line for what has to be 45 mins. to an hour. The line is always outrageous from what I've seen. I know concession prices are high, but I've never understood paying to get in the gate and then missing half the game to save a couple bucks on hot dogs.

My opinion of Phillips probably will not (cannot) ever be any higher than it is after the past four days. Between his dropping by a Little Leaguers game on his off day to keying a sweep of the whiny bitches with his production behind Votto, it's been a good week.

For the last several years, people have talked about what a steal the Arroyo / Willy Mo deal was, and for good reason. Might be time to consider the Phillips / Stevens deal in there with it.

And to think that Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Grady Sizemore could all be Nationals today if Omar Maniya and the Expos hadn't traded all three of them for 17 starts from Bartolo Colon in 2002.
