Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

and you'd get the first 3 out guaranteed before they adjusted to your 50 mph fastball.

I swear I talk about this all the time, no way the could gear down to the speed given how furious our arm action would be. They'd be helpless for a batter or two. God help us if they asked us to get more than 3 outs.

hey, at least i'd get out of the 1st inning :paranoid:

Good fucking riddance LeCure. Can we put him back in the bullpen? He seemed to be a better reliever than starter.

Back to the days of getting happy over 6 IP and less than 4 runs allowed from a starter, any starter.

I hope Brian Price is renting.

I hope to god Bailey plays like his days in Louisville... And Cueto comes back better than ever, this team needs those two DESPERATELY right now.

Votto is barely a better WAR player and that is just in his career year of 2010. I mentioned FH's age in the off chance he was crazy enough in my little fantasy world to resign with the Reds. :wink2: He'd be 28 and just entering his prime.

Cueto balances the books between the cost of FH and Votto plus you lose nothing, we have 6 more just like him.

Agreed on the JF for a pile of used jock straps.

I can see both sides, just wanted to get some feedback on it.

Do you really think that is going to be Votto's best year? On top of that, hard throwing young arms are really nice, but always worry me a lot more than a 1st baseman. Cueto is also not just a throw in. He was arguably the best pitcher on the staff last year, and is only 25. Sorry, he is last guy on this staff I would think about sending out.

I know everyone wants that top of the rotation guy, but giving up your MVP (and league MVP) in the middle of the lineup has a lot more ramifications than just the numbers Votto puts up. Everyday players are simply more valuable than a pitcher. So there is no reason to add in anything to a trade for Hernandez. Straight up, I might think about it. Yet throwing in a 25 year old pitcher with legit #2 stuff too much.

Truth be told the more I think of it, and the discussion over at RZ actually helped, I'd go with Bruce/Cueto/Wood and maybe a prospect if that what it took.

We keep getting this kind of pitching and I'd be tempted to say Bruce/Cueto/Wood and the Louisville team. This is getting scary bad.

Cueto has a career ERA of 4.27 with an xFIP of 4.3, Bailey 5.09/4.45.

Going into tonights beating LeCure/Leake combined for a 4.15 ERA in their 5 starts.

I wouldn't get too excited about the cavalry coming, in the end it isn't likely going to be much better.

Josh "real pitcher" Johnson 7 IP, 2 hits, 0 Runs against the unstoppable Pirates offense tonight.

To be fair I'm sure their hitters are tired after a 4 day marathon batting practice session like they just had to endure. Probably can't lift their arms.

You keep throwing out career numbers for those guys. You can't do that with really young pitchers. Randy Johnson was about a 4 ERA guy after 4 years. Greg Maddux was around 4 ERA after 3 years. Even Felix Hernandez (who you love) was around 4 ERA after 3 years. With younger pitchers you really need to look at their most recent year than their career numbers. Now, Cueto and Bailey are not any of those pitchers, but 3.64 and 4.46 are more representative of the type of pitcher they are than the career numbers you put out there.

Plus Leake and LeCure had the Padres and Astros for 3 of those 5 starts.

edit: Plus, that ERA is no longer 4.15 after tonight. Closer to 5.
