Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

You keep throwing out career numbers for those guys. You can't do that with really young pitchers. Randy Johnson was about a 4 ERA guy after 4 years. Greg Maddux was around 4 ERA after 3 years. Even Felix Hernandez (who you love) was around 4 ERA after 3 years. With younger pitchers you really need to look at their most recent year than their career numbers. Now, Cueto and Bailey are not any of those pitchers, but 3.64 and 4.46 are more representative of the type of pitcher they are than the career numbers you put out there.

Plus Leake and LeCure had the Padres and Astros for 3 of those 5 starts.

edit: Plus, that ERA is no longer 4.15 after tonight. Closer to 5.

I agree they are young but 300 and 500 some odd IP's and the picture is starting to at least take shape. Its more reasonable to expect them to be close to their xFIP than to morph into something significantly better imo (but its obviously possible).

Also neither one has shown an ability to stay healthy have they? I know Bailey hasn't. I dunno, I just don't expect much from two guys gimping in off the DL with their (sample size duly noted) modest career numbers to date.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I think its going to be similar to everyone having their own moment when they decided EE just isn't ever going to be able to throw to 1st or that you weren't going to separate good Kyle from bad Kyle. In fact we very well could have a rotation full of Kyle Lohse's, they'll tease you with fleeting glimpses of brilliance but at the end of it all you look and the numbers are pedestrian at best.

Ondrusek has closer stuff. Love him.

If Cueto and Bailey dont have it when they come back, I'd be all for putting Aroldis in the starting rotation post All Star Game. Even if he can only go about 5 innings per start the rest of the year it would be worth it. He obviously is the hope for the Reds SP future so they might as well see how its going to pan out. This plus he has shown throwing in multiple days is not his cup o tea.
