Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Dodgers are going to blow the 4 run lead and give one away to the Cards.

Which is nice.

EDIT 1
Ballgame. Had them down to their final strike twice and couldn't put it away.

2nd place Reds.

Sickening.

Jesus Brandon. Thats a [censored]ing pathetic at bat. I still think you bat Rolen in the spot Heisey was hitting. He's only the smartest hitter on the entire roster. Geesh.

Another great pitching outing goes down as a loss.

Wood can't catch a break.

This. Saw the Dodgers blow it on the recap during Sportscenter. Sigh...

Maybe instead of trading for pitching, maybe the Red Legs need a few good bats in the line-up.

Huh? Batting has been good considering the lack of a mega salary player. Three of our infielders made the All-Star Game and only one of our pitchers--Rhodes. They just need to get better match-ups and play with the line up on occasion. We're better than we've been in a while this year.

The lineup has needed adjusted for a while... Bruce is ice cold, Cabrera is struggling, the whole order needs shuffled up IMO... See what happens.

The infield has been very good but does Cabrera get better with the bat or is the team content with a 260 BA and a 975 Fielding %?

The outfield looks like this by position

LF BA .251 16 HR 75 RBI .296 OBP .435 SLG
CF BA .263 18 HR 53 RBI .345 OBP .487 SLG
RF BA .259 10 HR 36 RBI .331 OBP .434 SLG

C BA .281 6 HR 46 RBI .363 OBP .398 SLG

The stats are OK. Maybe Bruce will pick it up in the second half but I'm not going to hold my breath. IMO, we need one guy to really pick it up or we need to make a trade. The Reds will not make the playoffs unless a couple of moves happen and one of those moves would help in the outfield. While the platooning in the outfield has been reasonably successfull, a team needs to have someone that does it every day. At least one more CONSISTENT bat in the outfield will help alot unless Bruce, Gomes or Stubbs get hot the 2nd half.

Another area that needs work is the bullpen. Now the Reds have a unique problem. They have several starting pitchers returning to include Volquez, Bailey and Harang. Plus have Arroyo, Cueto, Leak and Wood starting. Wood has been super since being called up, so you keep him in the rotation and the other three have been pitching very well as it stands. Granted the coaches have plans in place to save Leakes arm. Same could be said for Wood. What would you do? Two of starters would be sent to the bullpen. Right now my five starters would be Arroyo, Cueto, Leake, Wood, and Volquez to begin and use Bailey and Harang from the BP and use each as spot starter or replacement if V doesn't workout and move V to the BP. Nonetheless, the bullpen needs help two. IF the Reds get another outfielder (Via trade or from the farm) and get some bullpen help (One solid reliever for certain) they can make and compete in the playoffs. Just my two cents.

Nats doing everything they can to help the Reds blow this open. 4 in, 2 more on, and still no outs in the 2nd with the top of the order coming up.

Christian Guzman is a fucking joke. Jim Bowden always had a fetish for him - I'm glad he got him for the Nats and not for the Reds.

Hopefully the rain doesn't wreak too much havoc with this game. The last thing I want to see is a long delay that causes the Reds to have to go to the 'pen early.

Here's one thing that still amazes me about major leaguers - even the bums will absolutely punish a shitty mistake pitch. Just look at that HR Miguel Cairo just hit. He pretty much sucks but he knew exactly what to do with that meatball.

I think the fill in PBP guy needs to shut the fuck up with spouting off Reds pitchers scoreless innings streaks. Yesterday the number was no more out of his mouth than Ianetta hit a HR off Wood.

Dickhead.

Fuck, we cant catch a break. Leake is looking very good through 5 and we're touching the Nats up again today. What happens? Pouring rain now.

Please let it stop. The Cards are already up 2-0 on the Phillies also with Carpenter pitching tonight.

It's an official game now. If it gets rained out then the bullpen gets a night off.
