Reds tidbits (2010 season)

I think Votto is a safe bet to win the fan vote. I read through some of the comments on the ESPN articles about the All-Star rosters and it seems at least half of the comments are fans of every team incensed at Votto's absence.

and luckily none of the others are on huge market teams like New York, Chicago, or LA.

The only one that comes even close to as big of a snub as Votto is Wagner. If Wagner did not blow that save 2 days ago he would have had better stats than Rhodes, and he is better than Brian Wilson (Matt Capps too, but he is the only Washington rep). Not as big a snub as Votto though. The guy could very well be the freaking 1st half MVP.

BTW...why in the fuck is Omar Infante on the All Star team? OPS just barely over .700, just over 20 runs and rbi. The guy is not even slugging .400. In ESPN Fantasy Baseball he is owned by 1.1% of owners, and that jackass is an All Star.

The Buckeye is a Yankee though. They get enough all stars just because they're Yankees.

My love for the Buckeyes, and former Buckeyes, surpasses my hate for the Yankees. Of course I have a family member that is now a scout for the Yankees (and he even played for the Red Sox). So I guess loyalty to pro sports teams is not a big thing in my family.

Pulled from RedsZone:

From the Reds website:

Besides Pujols and Gonzalez, the Phillies' Ryan Howard also made the NL squad. Howard was selected by his manager, Charlie Manuel, who is the All-Star skipper. "He's my guy," Manuel said about Howard. "He's my player. My guy. Probably the toughest decision was Howard and Votto. Both of them are having big years. Both of them are standing right there. Like I said, Howard's my guy. Their numbers are close, very close. I have to go with my guy."

If by close Charlie means not close at all then I agree. Let's compare Votto and Howard's numbers:

Joey Votto: .312/.412/.572 - .984 OPS, 19 HR/285 AB

Ryan Howard: .293/.349/.502 - .851 OPS, 15 HR/317 AB

Votto is blowing Howard out of the water.

no joke. have a buddy who pitches for WVU and loves the yankees.

Oh, ok. Sorry, can't help. Like I said, he is a major league scout. He travels to the midwestern teams and scouts the major league players. You know, pitching and hitting reports, looking for future free agents, future trade guys (he did the scouting of Hairston before the trade last year...not sure if that proves he is good at his job), etc. It was kind of funny. I was watching the game with my dad, and he picked him out of the crowd at GABP. Hairston was traded a few days later.

I've been voting often since yesterday - in between reading other things while I'm on the computer. I've probably done about 300+ so far and will continue through the week. It's nice that after the first vote it auto-populates all of the info so all I have to do is put in the 5-digit code and click submit each time.

I think he went with the Dusty scouting report..."won't clog up the bases."

BTW...I actually got into an argument on Redzone about Dusty's decision to let Leake hit against the Phillies (you know, when he was going to be taken out of the game the next inning and a man in scoring position). Posters actually defended the decision.
