Reds tidbits (2010 season)

If you are going to blow a 12 run lead and had one pitcher to choose, Mike Lincoln would be your man. He is incredibly awful.

Well, let's see if they can hold the Stros to 7 in 1 1/3 innings.

Fortunately the Reds scored enough run that even Stinkin' Lincoln couldn't blow it.

His 21.60 ERA on the evening would've only brought the Astros back to 14-9 if he had been allowed to pitch thru the 9th.

Good thing the Reds are continuing to hit and score, just in case Bud Selig makes a rule in the next 30 mins. that allows Dusty to put Lincoln back in the game.

Well look at the bright side. Not all that long ago a call to the pen could have produced any number of guys capable of blowing that lead. Now its down to 1 or 2.

I would have left his ass out there to do it to. Save the wear on the rest of the pen.

Fuck him and being embarrassed, don't suck and you won't get humiliated like that.

A couple more interesting items from tonight's game:

  • Drew Sutton is OPSing at 2.333 with 4 RBI after tonight, and he's probably going to be sent back to AAA tomorrow when Janish comes back from bereavement. I'm not saying that shouldn't happen - it's just another interesting thing like Del Rosario's stat line.
  • Kevin Cash, the Astros backup catcher, pitched the 8th for HOU and had a better outing than Mike Lincoln (9.00 ERA in 1.0 IP versus 21.60 ERA in 1.2 IP.)

Cash also was the Astros Pitcher most effective at retiring Miguel Cairo, who has a 1.489 OPS over the last three games filling in for Votto.

Most people think that Joey Votto is the better player but he's not, its actually Miguel Cairo.

:!

That shit with Gomes is absolutely hilarious. I was laughing out loud at 2 in the morning and getting yelled at. hehe

"You're using an awful lot of energy this time in the morning laughing at a website. Why dont you come over here and use some of that energy?!"

God I love Buckeyeplanet!

Paul Daugherty warns of the impending June-swoon, or maybe a West Coast road trip ... either way, the kick in the nuts is coming.

Cincinnati.Com | Cincinnati Enquirer | Paul Daugherty ? The Morning Line, 5/28

...

After a seven-day vacation in Class AAAA, the Reds will return to major league baseball on Monday, in St. Louis.

Because he is a contrarian and pretty much hates it when the local broadcasters gush for the home club, TML will point out the obvious, again: Cincinnati's nice little early run has been built on the backs of very bad ballclubs. The Reds have played My Pirates Who Desecrate The Game 10 times. By Sunday, they'll have played Houston 6 times. That's 16 of their first 51, against two teams who are a combined 23 games under .500, already.

Their interleague opponent, the Mistakeville Indians, have the second-worst record in the AL. Against teams currently with winning records, the Reds are 9-11. I enjoy The Cowboy, I sincerely do. But last night, he wondered aloud how close the Reds were to being "great." Ah, c'mon.

...

While I agree with Daugherty that the Reds have gotten fat on bad teams, I think part of the point for celebration is that they're actually good enough to get fat on the bad teams now. If the Reds can play .700 ball versus the bad teams and .500 versus the good ones, then they'll be in the post season. That's kind of how it works. Winning the last St. Louis series wasn't that important to this club, they've done it before. Sweeping the Milwaukee series after the St Louis series was what this club has never been able to do before, and they're capable of doing now.
