Reds tidbits (2010 season)

This is a huge game today for Aaron Harang. He has been the most inconsistent starter of the 5 all season and he's supposed to be the anchor. If he cant get it done vs the Buccos tonight then this season is lost for him. IF he can start to right the ship, we have something really going here.

HB to the 15-day DL, the Reds call up Del Rosario to prop up the 'pen while they run through this stretch of 20 games without a day off. Have not seen whether this means Owings will get Bailey's next turn in the rotation. John Fay speculates no, that another move will be made in a couple more days to bring up Wood.

Reds send Bailey to disabled list

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds have put right-hander Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list after tests found inflammation in his pitching shoulder.

Bailey had to leave a game Sunday in Cleveland in the third inning because he felt tightness in the shoulder. Bailey was examined on Monday in Cincinnati.

The Reds called up reliever Enerio Del Rosario from Triple-A Louisville to take Bailey's roster spot.

Del Rosario will be making his big league debut. He was 1-1 with three saves and a 1.46 ERA in 20 relief appearances for Louisville.

Also from Fay (via Twitter):

MRI showed no structural damage for Bailey. "I thought one start, but I'm not a doctor."

Cueto will throw tomorrow. Blister is better but "it still hurts."

Bailey has gone to the DL after leaving yesterday's game early.

The Reds have called up a reliever (del Rosario) to take his roster spot. Are they going to be able to skip his spot, are we going to see Owings making a spot start or two, or is del Rosario only going to be in town for a few days before a starter is called up from the minors?

I think the Reds have been fortunate to have relative layups on the schedule after the debacle in Atlanta. Maybe they can stay on track after all. Other than Atlanta, the only series they've lost this month was to St. Louis at the very beginning of May. I other than bouncing back from Atlanta, I hesitate to say that any one game or performance is really that big. If the Reds can keep winning series, they'll be in good shape all year.

Beat me to it.

The more I think about it, I think Fisher might be going back to L'ville for Wood. I think that would be my preference. Owings has been decent in the long relief role and I don't want to see that disrupted since we know he hasn't been able to cut it as a starter.

John Fogerty's "Centerfield" continues to inspire - ESPN

BOX SCORE LINE OF THE WEEK

Toronto's Shawn Camp had an interesting line last week when he recorded an out without an official batter faced (1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K). That's because on Camp's first pitch, Ichiro was thrown out trying to steal to end the inning, and the Blue Jays brought in closer Kevin Gregg to pitch the next inning (and blow the save). But Cincinnati reliever Enerio Del Rosario topped that with one of the most extraordinary major league debuts ever. Del Rosario took the mound in the seventh and struck out Andrew McCutcheon, who reached base on a passed ball. Del Rosario was then replaced by Danny Herrera, leaving him with this week's winning line:

0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

What kind of career will Del Rosario have? I don't know, but you have to like his career strikeouts per nine innings ratio.

At what point do you stop letting Masset go out there and stink up the joint to "get his confidence up"? Arroyo left the game with a man on 1st and two out. A single, a wild pitch and a walk later the bases are loaded and the go ahead run is coming to the plate.

Does Masset have any options left? If he's going to get his confidence up he needs to do it in a consequence-free environment. EDIT: the interwebs show he is out of options - he was out of 'em before he was dealt from Chicago.

Fuck you, Thom Brennaman. Our dog was easily the fan favorite to win "best dressed" tonight for the Bark in the Park and he picked some stupid dog from Nebraska because it had a little plastic Cowboy on its harness (that you can buy in any novelty shop). Our dog had a homemade Reds tutu and mohawk. At least the good guys won and very sweet play by Brandon climbing the ladder.
