Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Its been said who knows how many times but this team is a no quit bunch of SOB's. Another last at bat win for the Reds. Love the 3 game lead and it could stretch further tomorrow when Wood comes in and shuts down the DBacks.

Great to see Jim Edmonds get a big hit tonight.

Finally! Jay Bruce redeams himself in a big way tonight after his atrocity last night. Double away from the cycle. Very cool. Now if he can just keep it up.

Edinson had his bad outing tonight. Command has been shaky since his call back. Of course, he's really about a year behind considering Tommy John used to be a death sentence. Doesnt matter how good technology gets, it cant replace the lost time and experience even if his arm is well enough to throw.

Arthur Rhodes............................. unbelievable.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I'm 21 years old. When I was an infant, I started choking on toothpaste, causing my parents to bail on watching the world series during a family party at our house to join my soft ass in an ambulance en route to the hospital. Other than that, 5th grade when we lost to the Mets in a 1 game playoff is the only time we've been competitive this late in the year in my lifetime. I'm ecstatic that I might get to blow money on Reds playoff tickets this year. 3 games up..unreal. Normally, I'm ecstatic about returning to college and don't have any desire to return to Cincy until I get homesick and miss my family and dog halfway through the semester. A bunch of my friends and I from the area are already starting to plan trips back home to catch some games once the team returns from the west coast..and we aren't even back in classes yet. Love it..put a hard working, resilient team on the field that mirrors the attitude of this city and you'll absolutely get support. Lets do this.

Little bit of advice, tame the enthusiasm until they actually do it. I lived through the Reds of the 80's. 2nd place after 2nd place (4 years in a row, and the West coast trip was always death). 1990 was special, but only after the constant issues of the 80's. Certainly the last 10 years have been terrible, and it's now fun. Yet just enjoy the ride for now.

BTW...you are making me feel old. I guess I can't imagine only knowing the Reds in the late 90's through the 2000's.

whered everybody go?

I fell asleep at around 11:30 with the score 3-5. I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer after staying up until almost 2:00 the previous night.

Putting aside the fact the West Coast is where Reds' pennant dreams have traditionally gone to die, I hate the West Coast road trip just because it's too damn late for me to stay up nine nights in a row. I ain't 20 anymore. Of course, by mid-August the Reds are usually eliminated so I don't have to worry about such problems, so I'll deal with it as long as they keep winning.

Ditto. I made it through Tuesday night's game, but made the adult decision and turned it off at midnight last night.

I dozed off at 7-5. I figured they'd come back - they had just scored two runs as I was passing out. Arizona's bullpen is historically bad. I haven't been worried about Arizona despite the fact this is part of the dreaded "west coast trip". With just a few exceptions, this year's Reds have done what you're supposed to do with lousy teams - bury them. I'm glad to see that they're making hay against them, because it's going to be much tougher in the next two series. My hope for them all year has been to take 2 of 3 in each series. That means for this trip, my hope is 6 of 9. If they can finish off Arizona today that will set them up nicely for the rest of the trip I hope.

I read on RZ last night that Dusty has been offered an extension. For as much as I hate many of his in-game decisions, I think it's deserved. As somebody mentioned a few posts ago, this team doesn't quit. How many times has this team shit the bed this year, only to come roaring back? I'm convinced this has more to do with guys like Rolen, Cabrera, Votto, etc., but I think Dusty has a part in it too. I think at the very least he's a good enough character to let veteran leaders who have experience at winning something put their imprint on this young team. A lot of people (perhaps myself included at one point or another) wanted LaRussa once Jocketty came on board. I don't think his ego would have allowed this team to take on the character it has now.

I'm with you on Teh Dusty. I think he's a an idiot savant. He's an idiot at the X's and O's/how runs are created but a savant at the clubhouse/team chemistry part and if you had to pick one, getting all 25 guys to play hard all year long is more important.

At least 4 times this year I thought they'd fold up the tents and head home after a brutal game or series. Each time they came right back like nothing ever happened. I agree that some of that's probably Rolen/other vets but you have to give Rainman his due.

I'll continue to ask "Why Dusty why?" when he butchers easy substitution moves or opens his mouth about baseclogging/swinging at ball 4 type of shit but as long as the team shows this kind of fight you have to keep him around*.

*Unless he gets stupid(er) in his contract request or makes a monumental tactical gaffe so bad it forces Walt to drop the axe. Both of which are in the realm of possibility but seem unlikely at this point.
