Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

The Reds also could of had Bobby Abreu for 4 mill who is currently hitting .300 with 45 RBI's. and OBP of .400.

And he's shown almost no power so far....Abreu fits in nicely with the Angels because they don't need him to hit 30 homers. The Reds would have needed it from him....

And as Jax said, he's a lefty. You guys desperately need a couple of good RH bats.

That Jermaine Dye trade that didn't happen would be HUGE right now. As would have signing Burrell.....either or as they certainly wouldn't't have gotten both.

I was being sarcastic. Fuck the HR's, Abreu would have have been a huge upgrade in LF. The sad devotion to the "break up they lefties" commandment is one of my (many) pet peeves.

I still say LF is third or fourth on the list of shit wrong with this team. CF (when WT plays), SS, 3B (if no EE this year) and then LF for me.

He's hitting .233 with 2 HR's and 22 RBI in 45 games. 2 HR in 45 games pro-rates to 7 HR in 162 games.

I would have taken DeRosa in a heartbeat, if just to keep him away from a Central foe. The guy rakes something close to .367 vs Cincinnati, and has 9 games left this season to do some more damage.

Ty Wigginton, not so much.

And if you stick him in between Votto and Bruce (especially back when he was an FA) it would likely have been better.

Missing 5 weeks with a neck injury hasn't helped him at all. Just sayin....

Injuries are always a risk with Burrell, no doubt about that.

So is EE done for the year? I still don't understand the need for DeRosa other than to satisfy Reds fans insatiable desire for scrappy little white guys.

To be fair, just because Anaheim was able to get him for four doesn't mean that the Reds could have. His asking price was generally thought to be a little higher for everyone else.

I think it would have been wise to keep him away from St. Louis, and the guy is versatile. IF, OF, who needs a day off? He's sitting on 50 RBI before the break, and I wouldn't kick his 13 HR out of bed either.

St. Louis will make that trade look pretty uneven, and it will come at our expense. That was my main tipping point.

I know where they could have saved 6M to try and lure him here with. :smash:

All depends on what they would have had to give up. I agree he's useful but after WT lord only knows how badly they would have over paid for him.

Who is to say Tavares wasn't the Reds choice B after Abreu said no?

Then someone needs to remind Walt you don't spend the same amount on the closing time pick up skank that you would have spent on the hottie you missed out on. Thats economics 101.
