Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Buck up Redlegs fans. You could have the Tribe. This shit is absolutely BRUTAL. Our "bullpen" has allowed 45 baserunners in it's last 17 innings, our manager is a developmentally challenged baboon and our GM thinks we can still make a run this year. :(

Not sure it takes a genius to figure out WT sucked and the hitting was going to be anemic.

No it certainly did not take a genius. Then again Walt, The Dusty and guys like H&G were happier than a puppy with two dicks over the way this team was shaping up over the off season. Reminded me of the way people were trying to blow smoke up our asses when we signed Eric Milton because he had won 18 games the year before or some such bullshit. "Never mind the staggering HR and flyball tendencies, he wins games" simply became "don't talk to me about OBP, Tavars is fast and gets a lot of steals". Both guys were told by their most recent teams they weren't wanted and both got a multi year deal from the Reds for an absurd amount of money compared to what they would have gotten from anyone else(if they would have gotten offers at all).

The fun part for me is going to be watching when Cincy fans figure out smilin' Bob Castaleni has every intention of running the business the same way his business mentor Uncle Carl did except he's lied right to our face multiple times with all his "we wont accept losing anymore" bullshit. At least Lidner was up front about making money first and winning second. BC is just a fucking liar as I see it.

I think a couple of local guys were preparing their assault earlier this year when they pinned his ass down to direct quotes about winning after the "I was taken out of context" charade he played.

Bottom line to me is I see a good young nucleus of talent that could turn into something and I have hope. Then I see the Dusty chewing on a toothpick, cursing clogged bases, the GM making decisions like the WT signing and I'm reminded that in any organization if the guy at the top is a fuckstick the organization is pretty well fucked.

I think this franchise is pretty well fucked.

Conversation from Friday night between me and the wife (keep in mind she doesn't care about sports at all. No interest whatsoever):

BK: "Hey, alright. Reds won."
Mrs. Katt: "How far under .500 are they?"
BK: "Two games over surprisingly enough....despite Votto missing a ton of time and Willy Tavares not missing enough."
MK: "What's wrong with Tavares?"
BK: "He sucks. 1 for his last 45, 8 for his last 93. Fucking terrible. And they keep batting him leadoff."
MK: "Why do they keep batting him leadoff if he's that bad?"
BK: "Becasue he's faaaaaast (like a marsupial)...."
MK: "It doesn't matter how fast he is if he isn't getting on base, right?"
*prolonged silence*
MK: "What?"
BK: "Jesus Christ. Let me get Dusty on the phone. Maybe you can talk some sense into him."

My wife...my fucking wife....understands the game better than the fucking manager. :bonk:

MK for GM and or manager.

She grasps the fundamental concept of how runs are created which is more than can be said for The Dusty, the GM, the voice of the Reds and at least one semi-retarded poster I can think of.

Dickerson seems to be coming along. I wasnt sold on him at all before the season but I like what he's done over the last week in a half. Also appears that one part of his game does not affect the other. When his bat isnt going hot he doesnt let his fielding slide, which has been impressive, and vice versa. I also like Laynce Nix alot. This guy has done nothing but produce this season wether he's platooning or not. The things that are killing us is:

1. Injuries. They happen and when it hits your best two players it really sucks badly.

2. Jay Bruce has to start playing better baseball. No other comments needed than that. He's awful right now and he needs to get it fixed. .217 is not getting it done.

Joey Votto says hes ready to join the team!

The Reds’ offensive woes could ease this week, if Joey Votto has his way. Votto has been on the disabled list since May 29, with what the club termed “stress-related’’ issues. But after a two-game, weekend stint with the Class A Dayton Dragons, the first baseman said Sunday he was ready to return to the big-league club, perhaps as early as Tuesday in Toronto.

"I felt great out there,’’ said Votto. In two games with the Dragons, Votto had three hits, a home run and three RBI. More importantly, Votto said, was being able to play consecutive, nine-inning games without having to leave the game.
“It had been such a struggle, getting through games,’’ he said. “Getting through nine was a top priority.’’
Votto said he would speak with Reds trainer Mark Mann Sunday night, and also with manager Dusty Baker and GM Walt Jocketty. “We’ll have a little conversation and come to a conclusion what I need to do next,’’ said Votto.
“They know what I’ve been going through. They would be able to say, ‘Are you ready to go?’ My answer would be yes.’’

The Reds were 26-20 when Votto went on the disabled list on May 29. They’ve gone 8-14 since. Despite missing the last 22 games, Votto still ranks third on the club in homers and RBI.

Votto was on the team plane this morning according to Lance Mcalister. Trade rumors ar heating up on Arroyo as well. Not a bad ideA getting rid of the 12 mil hes owed for next year.

Homer time!!!!!!

For all the crap I give him, and least he has added a split finger fastball. Sure, he should probably contact Dr. Andrews right now, but hey, it looks to be a good pitch and he is throwing it well. Of course you never really need to throw a split finger well. It's usually not thrown for a strike, and not hard to throw. Just destroys your elbow.
