Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Votto to start rehab assignment

It was just two words of confirmation but it was all that was needed to know that 1B Joey Votto's path to returning to the Reds was headed to the next step. On the field Wednesday for batting practice, Votto was asked if he was going on a Minor League rehab assignment tonight.
"Yes," he confirmed.
Where?
"Florida," was the reply.

He's coming back.:drunks: (After the next road trip)

10 days is to long to be on a rehab assignment. He needs to join the team in Toronto IMO. And how about Willy Taveras today? Leaves the bases loaded, fails to put down a bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, and K's 3 times. He is now 8 for his last fucking 93!!!!!!KNOCK KNOCK DUSTY. ANY1 HOME?????????

they wouldn't be sending him down to Florida for 10 days unless he needed it.

As for Taveras, what did you REALLY expect? That's what this guy is all about. Hell at this point the Reds would be better off "injuring" him and signing Steve Finley.

Are you gonna trust the Reds thats the right thing to do? Votto could take 2 months off and come back and be 10 x's better than every1 in the lineup. And didnt he already miss a week 1 1/2 due to Dizziness and come back and hit 2 HRs his first game back? Thats about the same amount of time he missed while he was on the DL.

Do you know anything about the status of Votto they don't?

Dizziness can be a lot of things. It's probably best to start him off low and slow to see what he has.

And being better than "every1" in the lineup isn't exactly saying much in case you didn't notice.

It's been labeled as a "stress" issue. There was some crazy speculation on the radio the other night during the rain delay. Some loony woman called in suggesting it was a "female" problem. Marty and Jeff hung up on her but didn't offer any rebuttal. They were running with the "stress" explanation (seeming to imply it had to do with him trying to do too much for the team) and said he looked to be in much better spirits.

Between the flu/flu-like symptoms, then the dizzyness, then the DL trip due to stress, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard tomorrow that Votto was found walking the streets of Cinci drunk shouting, "I am GOD!" and it turns out he had lyme disease this whole time like the kid from FSU.

Yeah, yeah, yeah OBP and all that...the dude is FAST. There's more to baseball than all this fancy "not making outs" stuff you egg heads are always going on about. Willie Tavaras is fast. If he were to somehow find his way on first base he could score on a single...thusly creating more runs for his team. It isn't beer league softball you know, there is a lot more to it.

1 for his last 45. Who knew that the 7 for 48 stretch immediately preceding that would be his hot streak. 8 for 93.

Piece of shit player. What really pisses me off, more than his obscene suckiness and puketacular contract is the fact that he doesn't even try to use his speed to get on. Sure, he'll lay a bunt down every now and again, but he's got a long swing, no patience, and hits way to many pop-ups and flyballs. For god's sake, shorten your swing and chop down at the ball, you dumb asshole. A chopper to the left side is as good as a hit. Braindead, over-paid POS.

Don't forget the Rockies (not to be confused with the '27 Yankees) cut this fucking oxygen thief instead of going to arbitration with him and paying more money. They had a rookie CF with a pulse and said to themselves they'd take their chances.

BUUUUT the fucking REDS felt the need to sign him to a multi year FA contract citing speed and the fact they "saw" something he was doing wrong (yeah like fucking swinging a bat) and could "fix" it (you can't fix stupid and you can't fix a lack of talent). All the while having their own young, homegrown and cheap alternative in house and ready to go.

A quick glance at his career numbers showed anyone willing to look that this was the most likely level of production for this guy (sub .250 BA, borderline .300 OBP) but hey, who wants to get slowed down by facts and probabilities when there is speed to be had on the FA market?

So what you're saying is that he's the Omar Epps version of Willie Mays Hayes.....

All Things Rockies Colorado

:stupid:Some organizations will just never get better because they keep making bad decisions. The Reds are breathing the same stank air as the Bungles, Lions and Clippers now.

Institutionalized suck due to institutionalized stupidity.

JHJ is back for 2M to be our SS. So much for improving the defense.

The lineup is looking like this:

CF Taveras
SS Hariston
1b Votto
2b Phillips
RF Bruce
3b EE
LF Dickerson
C Hernandez
P

Thats an absolutely anemic offense, still a shitty defense and the pitching isn't good enough to overcome either problem.

Good times.

These are a couple of posts from back around the first of the year (since we are in the middle of the year I thought I'd bring them up.

Someone should start a petition to get Jax to be the GM.

Not sure it takes a genius to figure out WT sucked and the hitting was going to be anemic.
