The best one was last year," he said. "I was at [Triple-A] Louisville. One of our catchers, Albert Colina, who is a really big guy, picked me up and put me in his lap as he sat in the bullpen. Then he stuck his arm inside my jacket, and up my back. He wouldn't let me go. I thought, 'What is he doing?' Then, whenever I would talk, he would move his lips. Everyone was cracking up. He was the ventriloquist, and I was puppet. That was the best one."\

LMAO!!!!!!

Ug. Swept by the Royals. Well, they are on their downward slide. Votto has been on the DL over 15 days and no signs of returning. I don't really see a whole lot of hope at this point (not that I had a ton).

Why aren't they just manufacturing runs? I was told all offseason, the speed would let them play more small ball and small ball means more runs because you can just manufacture them whenever you need them. Speed doesn't slump or so I was told.

No one on the team who just hits a lot of meaningless rally killers so they should be rocking it right now. I see the OBP of all but 2 of the regulars is completely abysmal but all the real knowledgeable guys like Joe Morgan and Marty (and H&G) say OBP is overrated so what's gone wrong?

Watched the game last night. Leake scattered a couple hits in the first three innings but pitched well enough at the start of the game, coming out of the top of the 3rd with a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd ASU added three more runs to the three they scored in the 2nd, making it 6-0 and getting into the Texas bullpen. The half inning was prolonged with the pitching change, four walks, and two errors by the Longhorns.

Leake wound up sitting for over 30 minutes through the half inning, then came out in the top of the fourth and appeared to struggle with his command. A bloop, a HBP, and a blast made it 6-3, then another sequence that went something like a bloop, a seeing-eye single, a fielders choice that wasnt converted into a DP, a throwing error on another infield single/FC, and a lazy fly the dropped in front of the RF made it 6-6, chasing Leake. It wasn't pretty, but he wasn't exactly getting rocked like Eric Milton at GABP out there either.

Hersheiser and Steve Phillips repeatedly commented on how good Leake's stuff was for college, but that it'd be difficult to project MLB success because the strike zone is so much smaller and the hitters so much better. Most common comparisons they threw around were David Cone and Bronson Arroyo, because he can throw five different pitches from different arm slots, though Bulldog observed that Leake's arm slot was too side-arm for his fast ball and wouldn't be workable at the MLB level, because it'd either be in the zone on the same plane as the bat, or well outside -- mentioned the first thing Cinci would probably do is get his FB delivery more over the top and downward.

So we have Homer with stuff and no idea how to pitch and then Leake with high MLB level pitching IQ and no stuff.

Maybe soon they can start aiming for the middle of that particular spectrum when drafting.
