Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Put that under the "If I woke up tommorrow with my head sewn to the carpet I wouldn't be more suprised than I am right now" category.
Getting the first guy of a 5 run inning on through an error will do that. Mr. Oswalt is up tomorrow-it ain't gonna be pretty for the Redlegs......

True. I still think Wandy Rodriguez means Eric Milton in spanish.

Reds players should just go over before the game, give Oswalt all their meal money, let him kick them in the nuts and save everyone the pain of drawing it out for 3 hours.

While we have not beaten Oswalt this year, he has not beaten us either, in 2 tries (13 IP, 1 ER). He has 2 ND's, and the 2 teams split those games, with each winning on the road. Back to the original point, doesn't look good for tomorrow.

I wanna go back to Homer...Not sure why some give up so easily...The kid is 23 he came up for a spot start for Volquez...

I really thought he got squeezed all night by the ump...He was just missing on the inside and outside...

I have seen Bailey twice this year, once in the minors and then the other night...At this point it is about control...He has stuff to get Major league hitters out...If he figured out the control, he has stuff to be a #1 or #2 on a staff...He had been throwing better in AAA with better control, and guys don't seem to hit him hard, other than when he makes mistakes...Hence the hr the other night...Outside of that they had only 2 hits...6 walks killed him, and you could see mentally he tried to pitch the pefect game and when he was getting squeezed it was hurting him mentally...

I think he will be up later in the season after going back down and having some good outings...

I think he's out of options as well (if not down to 1 or so). If so its decision time.

The option rule is really goofy and has all kinds of caveats, but yes, this is Homer's last option year. So next year they are pretty much forced to play him on the major league roster if they ever call him up.

BTW...quick rundown of the options rule...a player has 3 years to be on the 40 man roster and be called up and down from the minors an unlimited number of times. Like I said, there are caveats but I don't think Homer qualifies for any of them. Since he was in both the minors and majors in 2007, 2008, and now 2009 this is his last year to be called up and then put back down in the minors without going through waivers (so spot starting next year is out of the question). At least that is how I understand it. The actual rule is 4 or 5 pages long.

Add this one to the list:

"For the most part, Todd Coffey has been a reliable bullpen arm, holding opponents scoreless in 15 of 19 appearances."

Todd Coffey has been pitching well, Juan "hands of gold, bat of a small girl" Castro goes 3-5 with 3 RBI yesterday while hitting .387 on the season, North Korea is firing off nukes like a drunken redneck at a 4th of July party, the economy is completely fucked and yet today the stock market goes up and gold goes down. :ohwell:

I think I'm going to take a break from the whole "try to make sense of it all" game for a while, my head hurts.
