Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Votto to LF, Yonder at 1B. Now you go solve SS and CF assuming we have the answer for 3B in house.
I know he's struggling at the plate right now and he's not exactly a gold glover in the field, but with the kind of offense we have right now, I think EE is the answer at 3B. You can't just ignore 28 HR, and we need all the offense we can get at this point. Can Rosales play any SS? that would defiantly help out with offense.

I saw him in the WBC and a few times in ST. He can play it well enough if he spends some time working on it.

Contrary to popular belief around the 'Nati, LF isn't a premium defensive position.

If Ryan Garko can make the tarnsition, this should really be a non-issue Reds fans. Let's be serious..name of the game, is to have as much offensive production as possible. In a park the GABP, LF isn't a premium anyways. The wall neutralizes range needed.

Pitching has been fantastic...Defense has been pretty good...

Now if we could find a way to consistently get 4 runs/gmae I think we will end up right around .500 which is much better than we have been in years past...

I still think Drew Stubbs will be the answer in CF...he can OPS about .750 get on base, and play great defense...And SS could be in house, but a couple years away with Zach Cozart who is tearing up AA right now and already is ready in terms of defense...

We just need to get some pop from the LF and 3B positions...And at least one of them has to be a RH guy...Frazier in LF? But then you have Yonder/Votto at first...

I think Soto will end up being hte best 3b prospect we have...

7-0, that makes 6 shutouts.

If you are going to gouge the offensive output, I think you had better back it up with your pitching.

Anyone disappointed with the Reds pitching so far? This is absolutely mesmerizing. Good pitching brings good things....

Remember the days of Jimmy Haynes,DannyGraves,Russ Ortiz and Jose Acevedo? The Reds pitching staff has certainly come a long ways.

I really hate Karl Ravech and the ESPN baseball crew. The fixation with Sox/Yankees aside, they rarely say anything related to the Reds beyond a passing comment when announcing the box score.

Last night, the Reds staff threw it's sixth shutout of the year. What does Ravech ask Tim Kurkjian after showing highlights of the game? He asks about how good the Marlins pitching staff has been! :smash:

Or take this poll for the best of April:

ESPN: SportsNation Polling - 3829 - SportsNation

Joey Votto isn't even on it. :shake:

The rotation this year is better than anything the Reds have trotted out in at least the past 20 years, Burton and Lincoln appear to have worked out their issues, and Rhodes, Weathers and Cordero are vets who really shouldn't be a concern. This staff is top-to-bottom far ahead of the '99 crew, which were a bunch of contact pitchers with a good defense behind them. You have to go back to 1990 with Browning, Rijo, Jackson, and Armstrong in the rotation and Dibble and Myers out of the pen to find a Cinci staff that has been (or could be) this good.

Even if the Reds don't contend at the end of the season, it'd be nice to see them at least play well enough to draw some fans, earn some revenue, and have the dough to build on what they've got started here.
