Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Nick Lachey to throw out 1st pitch opening day!!!!!! This could be the best move all off-season by the Reds if he brings his lady friend Vanessa Minnillo along.

1. Beard

Any opposite sex escort taken to an event in an effort to give a homosexaul person the apperance of being out on a date with a person of the opposite sex.

Half of the women on the red carpet at the movie premier were not real dates, but beards.

2. beard

a man or woman used as a cover for a gay partner

poor Jenny, she has no idea that she's been Allen's beard for the past 5 years

They should add clips of Dusty filling in the lineup card to that.

I have contended for a long time now that the only music that needs to be played when the Reds take the field, come to the plate or are advertised on TV is circus music. It should be their theme song untill they can break .500.

Yes, and on road trips they should all have to climb into the same car and ride to the next city.

Holy crap a glimpse of the old Homer today. Maybe they didnt kill him he's only been hiding. Hmmmmm.

3IP, 1H,1BB,4K 0.00 ERA. Yes its only spring training. Yes its the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. But, all things considered, I didnt expect it to even be that good today. For Homers sake and for the sake of the organization I do hope he can right the ship and be a 5th starter this year. We desparately need a silver lining.

Fastball was humming in the mid 90's today as well.

Hoping against hope, in my little Reds fantasy land:

HB flips the switch and becomes a legit top of the rotation SP while someone else grabs the #5 spot. At the same time WJ takes pills to negate the effect the Cincy air had on him and gets his baseball brains back in time to deal Arroyo and BP for a package of good young prospects(and asks how in the hell Tavares got here and where in the hell his big bat in LF went).

Just my little dream. Then I wake up and see Dusty smiling at me and I want to go back to sleep, quickly.

in only 116 AB

I guess I'd prefer to see a bit more of a sample size before giving him the LF job but what the hell. If Tavares passes for an everyday CF and leadoff hitter on this team why can't Owings pass for an everyday LF? You've convinced me.

I was looking over player stats prepping for fantasy baseball. Cantu .277, 29 HR, 95RBI, .818OPS. Why the fuck did we let him walk for bumpkis?

Same reason this teams has, does and will continue to suck ass....a sorry ass front office/ownership.

Bob C and the two GM's he's had are just new names on the same tired old game.

BTW...anyone see the ESPN report on early steroid use in baseball, and the Reds trainer Star (missed his first name). He mentioned the first time he saw it was in 1984 when a double A player suddenly jumped from 169 to 195.

One player this seems to fit is Eric Davis (the first player I thought of). He was is AA the year before, and played at about 190 with the Reds in 1984. He did become a star pretty quick, and then had lots of injuries.

I also could not find another player that matched those facts. Never thought of Davis as a roids user, but he did have an uncanny mix of speed and power (only surpassed by Bonds and Canseco...hmmm).

Eric's power came from his hands speed/bat speed. If he'd have used 'roids he wouldnt have gotten hurt in the first place. Also in the early 80's steroids were still legal. I cant see him as a steroid user. Now cocaine on the other hand.....

Yeah, so did Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds.

Although I did just watch it again. It said a light hitting AA player. Davis was not what I would call a light hitter in the minors. Not quite a power hitter, but he did have some power numbers.

Long thread on this over at RZ, the dates don't jive for any player anyone can find. Seems the author maybe changed dates to protect people.

As far as Eric Davis on roids all I would say is that he wouldn't tip 190lbs if you dunked him in cement. Also the article says a second rounder which rules out ED.

His injuries were from a skinny little body being worn out crashing into walls and diving on green concrete in Riverfront. No, call me crazy but even with all the guys caught using I would bet my left nut that ED was never one of them. Wrong era and none of the tell tale signs imo.
