Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

It's more like Volquez and Harang and 3 days of rain, but yeah.

I think Cueto will pull it together. His WHIP is still really good. That is normally pretty good at predicting what someone will do in the future. As for Arroyo, he seems to be turning it around a bit. He will be serviceable. Yet Belisle is just God awful and I don't see any hope with him.

Yet I know what you were getting at....Spahn and Sain and pray for rain.

Hey Cueto will find it...Remember when he was the one that everyone was all over early in the season...I just hope he finds it and doesn't have to go back down at all, and also Bronson seems to have found it...

I would love to goto to a rotation where we could get Arroyo and Harang to throw on 3 days rest, then 4 the next time, as you don't want Volquez and Cueto to only go on 3 days...Arroyo always seems to throw better and Harang is effortless in his pitching and would be fine...

Monday-Harang
Tuesday-Arroyo
Wednesday-Volquez
Thursday-Cueto
Friday-Harang
Saturday-Arroyo
Sunday-Belisle
Monday-Volquez
Tuesday-Cueto

Then back to the top...

If we had an offday like say Thursday...Throw Cueto on Friday, Harang, Arroyo on Saturday and Sunday, where they get their full 4 days, but then skip Belisle...and go with Volquez on Monday...He gets his full 4 days...

Move Belisle to a long relief type role when his spot is going to be skipped...Much like a swing man...I would have him pitch the 7 inning and maybe think about working him into the bullpen rotation and hope that maybe a month of this rotation and maybe Bailey will be ready to go...

I think a move like that could get us back in the race, as you are not running out an automatic lose pitcher every 5th game, and Harang Arroyo more...

Assuming it takes 90 wins to take the division we would have to play damn near .600 ball the rest of the season based on our current record.

I hate to always piss on your parade but there are just too many holes to fill on this team to play that well consistently.

Yeah that is understandable...But that is a rotation that could lead a team to .600 baseball, especially thinking that all the teams in the division are overachieving a little bit right now...

Other than Zambrano, I would say Harang and Volquez are two of the best pitchers in the division...

OK, jinx be damned.

Current Reds record 19-23

Next 14 games in May (opponents win % as of 5/17/08)
Cle x 2 (.524)
@ LAD x 3 (.512)
@ SD x 4 (.372)
Pitt x 3 (.476)
Atl x 2 (.512)

Play .600 ball and win 8 of 14 (8-6 overall) and we start June only 2 games under .500 (27-29) which I would have taken if offered before opening day. Key series to the whole thing in bold imo.

Cueto seems to have benefitted from the "Bako calls the game, you execute the fucking pitch or go back to Louisville" speech he got from Dusty and Arroyo might be coming around.

What the hell, maybe they can do it.

Cueto is going to be awesome.

I say that because the guy has tremendous stuff and he throws strikes. Right now he hasnt learned how to pitch in the majors with his stuff. Its not that he's missing and guys are hitting him out, he's throwing too good of strikes and they are hitting him out. Thats what major league hitters do. When he figures out that he doesnt have to throw it perfectly in the strike zone and starts to nibble again, like he did his first two outings, he'll mow teams down left and right. With as much movement as his pitches have on them anything not squarely over the middle of the plate isnt going to hurt him when guys do hit it. Thats what used to piss me off about Greg Maddux. Even when we hit the guy it wouldnt go anywhere.

Way to go Adam Dunn. Not a lot of guys would've been able to work that walk in the 8th. He quietly has 8 homers now also. I would've thought he had maybe 5 with the way he's been going.

Good for Brandon Phillips. I loved the little "skip" over home plate to dig the Indians after his monster shot last night. I'd really love to see him get another chance to skip today.

Can we please, for the love of God, give Aaron Harang some freaking run support today!?!?!
