Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

OK, jinx be damned.

Current Reds record 19-23

Next 14 games in May (opponents win % as of 5/17/08)
Cle x 2 (.524) W W
@ LAD x 3 (.512)
@ SD x 4 (.372)
Pitt x 3 (.476)
Atl x 2 (.512)

Play .600 ball and win 8 of 14 (8-6 overall) and we start June only 2 games under .500 (27-29) which I would have taken if offered before opening day. Key series to the whole thing in bold imo.

Cueto seems to have benefitted from the "Bako calls the game, you execute the fucking pitch or go back to Louisville" speech he got from Dusty and Arroyo might be coming around.

What the hell, maybe they can do it.

These next 7 are big, we have gotten killed on the road this year. LA and SD aren't all that. We have to win at least 3 of the 7 roadies, 4 would be perfect.

Very bad pitching matchups in LA...

Would love to get 2, but I just don't see it...1 there and 3 in San Diego would be the way I see us getting 4 of 7...Unless Arroyo can beat Penny, but Belisle vs Penny is not good, and Cueto throws against a guy with a 3.5 era...

None of our two best pitchers pitch...

I wouldn't say very bad if Arroyo continues his trend of unfucking himself. He and Cueto give you an even money chance to win if the offense produces something.

None of the LA starters will be lefties and the Donkey is starting to hit, lets see what they do. If they just play .500 ball until the end of may we are in pretty good shape. I'd like to see better that that.

This coming froma Tribe fan...

I think Cincinnati's pitching is much better than they've shown. Cueto has the stuff, where at any moment he can be a very good starter. Volquez is the truth. Harang is solid. Honestly, Arroyo and Belisle are your two worst starters, IMO. Most teams would take that.

I think Cincinnati is close. It'd probbaly be benficial to unload Ken Griffey....if for nothing more than the pressure to play him everyday and hit him in the top of the line-up.

Anyways, I root for Cincinnati in the NL, so good luck. I get much more enjoyment out of you winning than the Cubs.

The number one prospect in all baseball is sitting in Louisville waiting to take over RF from him. Only Dusty and Jocketty know what the hold up is.

Agree on the pitching, this little win streak started when Arroyo and Cueto got it together and Dunn started mashing.

I'd rather see any team in the NL central win than the dickhead Cubs and their equally dickheaded fans.

The thing with Arroyo is that he is pitching against Brad penny who owns the Reds...

The way we're hitting the ball right now, I'd give us even money to upset Penny's apple cart. If you would've told me we'd win the series vs. the Dbacks earlier and their pitching I'd have said no way. The sweep vs. the Marlins and now Cleveland which also has one of the best pitching staffs in the league, I'd have said No F'ing Way! As long as Jekyll is in control we can beat anyone. When Hyde rears his ugly head we couldnt beat Arizonas softball team.

Great to see Dunn lighting it up. We all knew he would eventually didnt we? Notice when he's hitting well he actually makes some plays in the field? Anyone else ever think they'd see Dunn rob someone over a wall? Not me.

We could use a little more bullpen help and its past time for Bruce already. As soon as a deal for Jr. gets done he'll be up here. Its only a matter of time. If we could add him to our lineup right now it'd be very hard to beat. Off to the West Coast. Good for me I can watch most of these games while they're out here. Go Reds, keep it going.

Dunn just hit a mile high home run...5 straight games ties a Reds record.

BTW...listening to Vin Scully is so strange. He never changes his tone (a strange one at that). I thought for sure it was going to be a routine fly ball.

I called the HR when I saw the swing. Grand & Welsh didn't seem too sure when they were calling it. Ethier circled under it in RF like he was going to catch it, and then stood on the edge of the warning track as it landed about 15 rows up.

BTW - once the Reds went up 4-0, Janish should've been out there as a defensive sub. I don't care if it's only the top of the 3rd. Hairston is a joke.

Vin is great. He is one of the only broadcasters who can do games solo. He has so many stories. Maybe I'm partial because I grew up with him doing the "Game of the Week."

Griffey gets a nice hit towards the CF-RF gap, dogs it to first, then gets thrown out at second after lazily rounding first and then trying for 2b when the CF bobbles it..pathetic. Count yet another that would love to see him traded for a bag of peanuts and whatever else Seattle will part with immediately. Addition by subtraction, get Bruce up here.

Phillips followed this up with a triple which would've scored a run. Luckily Dunn continued his tear with a nice hit deep in the count to plate BP.
