Hitting is still on a tear though and I'm loving that. Arroyo didnt pitch badly. He should've gotten out of that inning with a 3 run lead going 6. I still believe we need another bullpen arm with some guts. I love the way Bray has pitched. We need one more setup man for Cordero, Weathers is not the answer.

Hopefully we can start another streak today.

The difference in the game last night other than the 2 errors, was the bullpen...Ours gave up like 7 runners in 4 innings...The Dodgers gave up 2 in the 3 innings...

If I was calling the shots I would try dealing Adam Dunn while his stock is temporarily up. While he provides homeruns here & there, a decent amount of walks, & sub-par defense. He kills us with his strike-outs especially with runners aboard & his .200 BA. If we shopped him for more pitching we could finally bring up Jay Bruce. There I said it. I hope your listening Walt.:drunks:

  • All outs are bad, strikeouts don't have any kind of special badness in them.
  • Dunns value is not in his BA, in fact BA is probably the worst stat in baseball. He doesn't make outs better than almost anyone on the team and that skill of his does not go away even when he was in a long power slump. Thats not temporary value, Dunn has legit value to anyone who isn't brainwashed by Marty and their little league coach to judge a power hitter by his BA.
  • I wasn't aware Dunn was blocking Bruce, I thought it was Griffey.
  • I agree that Dunn's defense is wretched but then again so are a lot of the glove's on this team. At least he brings some very useful offensive skill sets to the table and plays a non premium defensive position.
Bottom line is if you take the big donkey for what he is and don't expect him to be something different you quickly realize he is doing his thing and he damn sure isn't the reason the Reds have sucked ass for as long as they have.

I have no problem trading him for the right return or even letting him walk for the draft picks but if he is willing to sign a reasonable LTC (he won't, he's worth a lot of money) I'm not going to cry about having him in LF for the next few years.

My biggest problem with him is something he can't control, he's a lefty in a lefty heavy lineup that needs some RH power to balance it out.

Just a .500 team at best. So many weak spots that one is always surfacing to cost us games.

If the pitching is good the offense is in the shitter, hit ok pitch ok and the defense breaks our back, do everything else well one game and the pen blows it.

When you have so many fundamental weaknesses the 162 game season will expose them all, you can't hide anything.

-Lineup has to get a better balance
-There is no bench to speak of
-Defense has to improve A LOT
-Pen is average at best outside of Cordero
-Starting rotation is the closest thing we have to a strength but Cueto and Arroyo must be more consistent. Its really still just 2 good starters and hope for the best.

To salvage this road trip they simply must take no less than 3 of 4 from a team as bad as San Diego. They do that and they are still alive for a .500ish record come June.

How is going hitting the ball far & leading the league in strikeouts an offensive skill set? Thats what I call just plain braun. And while I'll agree he is not the only reason the Reds have sucked for countless years, he definetly has not helped their cause. Watching him stranding runners & not even putting the ball in play kills the Reds. Yeah he'll hit you a long ball every now & then, but a base hit with a guy in scoring position will score runs just as well. Yes I'll also agree that he alone is not keeping Bruce from playing because Bruce can play center, but he is not a true centerfielder. The point being Dunn carries a big paycheck (at least for the reds payroll), if he would sign for less great, but he is not worth the money the reds are shelling out.

Look at the numbers that matter and you will see that Dunn has been the most productive Reds in the past couple years...
