Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Edwin's work, rest pay off for Reds

MILWAUKEE ? Dusty Baker thought about permitting Edwin Encarnacion and his slump to sit on the bench two days in a row. Thought about it for about as long as it takes to say En-car-na-see-own.
"He hit a lot extra Wednesday when I gave him a day off and I thought about two days off," said Baker. "But I thought, 'No, two this early is too many. One is enough.' "
It was one of Baker's more fortuitous decisions so far this season, putting Encarnacion and his .083 average and his 0-for-17 back into the lineup Thursday, April 10, against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Encarnacion reacted positively ? mainly with a two-run home run that broke a tie in the seventh as the Reds recorded a 4-1 victory. Encarnacion also singled, walked and scored two runs.

Rain Delay, Opening Pitch 7:25

Todays Lineup
Norris Hopper CF
Jeff Keppinger SS
Ken Griffey Jr. RF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Adam Dunn LF
Edwin Encarnacion 3B
Joey Votto 1B

Hopper is hitting .455 against Malholm, which is good for us. Also we will see if Volquez can have another amazing day.

It's raining again, hard enough to force another delay.

What is it with Pissburgh and their crappy grounds crews. First it was the Steelers, now it's the Pirates. Apparently there was a lot of water that hadn't drained from the field before the delay, and now the fucking retards can't even figure out how to work a tarp, so the 1st base side of the infield is getting soaked.

I hate to say it, but you gotta warm up Affeldt to pitch following the delay. This is gonna last too long to put him back out there.

Volquez hasn't had his best stuff tonight, but to his credit he's still shut them out and kept his team in the game. I know it's the Pirates, but it's still an encouraging thing to see from a young pitcher like him. The Reds just need to pull their heads out of their asses and put some runs on the board.

Another slop throwing lefty shutting us down when it counts, another pile o men LOB.

If EE doesn't start hitting soon we are going to be just as suceptible to LH pitching as we were last year.

I'd just as soon call this one and start over against a righty some other day.

EDIT****

Brewers and Cubbies both lost so we've got that going for us

which is nice

This is the drawback to having decent pitching for a change. Normally with the way the Reds are hitting they'd be down 8-0 in a game like this, and I would have given up and changed the channel to something more entertaining. Instead, I'm still watching this crap parade.

Are you really that surprised? Most of these guys couldn't hit a lefty with a boat oar.

I'd say they couldn't drive a run in against a lefty with a boat oar. They are doing something right to leave that many on.
