Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

I like the late inning comebacks so far this season...

If we can continue to get the pitching we have go so far in the first week all season we are going to have a successful season...

If Volquez can have a good start we could win the first 2 series of the year against two '07 playoff teams. There are worse ways to start than that.

Starters have got to eat some innings when the weather gets warmer though, the less that pen is used the better.

Agreed on both points...Still think that Roenicke will be an answer to the pen come mid season...along with Bray and maybe McBeth...Hopefully neither has an injury...

iTunes has Johnny Cueto's first start available for download as part of MLB.com's 2008 Games of the Year. It's $1.99 for the full game, and the quality looks decent based on the :30 preview. It's the FSN Arizona feed - since FSN Ohio didn't have the foresight to broadcast the first game of the most exciting young player on the team. Oh well, at least you don't have to listen to the lousy Reds announcers while you watch.

FSN Arizona? Is Mark Grace still working for them?

That's worth $1.99.

I actually enjoy listening to Grace and the Arizona PBP guy. They are sure as hell a lot better than our assembled cast of morons and assholes.

Speaking of announcers... Chris Welsh is a fucking goober on TV and in those damn JTM commercials with Bronson Arroyo, but I got to hear him on the radio for the first time the other day and he was pretty good. He kinda sounded like a more agile version of Joe Nuxhall - I liked it. I have yet to hear him make a big call or how he handles a climactic situation, but I think he may be a much better on radio than TV. I think he's definitely better than anybody else they've shuffled through that spot since Joe retired.

Keppinger - solo HR. He was also the man on base for Griffey's HR. All he does is hit. He should probably start over Gonzalez when he's healthy.
i was thinking kep should get moved over to third when gonzo comes back at short. i like him a lot better at the plate and field than edwin..

I disagree. Edwin is getting on base and should be one of the team's best hitters this year. Keppinger is looking like he could be in that group too. Gonzalez is one of four active players in MLB with 3000 ABs and a. career OBP below .300 (credit to RedsZone for that stat). His defense is good, but not great - and not good enough to make up for the superior bat of either Keppinger or Encarnacion.

Encarnacion + Keppinger > Gonzalez + Keppinger.
