Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Actually, Zambrano's did have issues under Dusty, but they were back and elbow related... Once he lost weight, he was better...

Pretty accurate stereotype of Cubs fans there jlb... :roll2:
And most of the fans place the blame on Dusty because that's where the players themselves place the blame... Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Jason Schmidt, Robb Nenn, Rod Beck (and others)... All broke down and had lots of arm troubles on Dusty's watch...

Someone remind me again why Todd Coffee is on a major league roster.

Actually I don't care that he's on an MLB roster, I just care that it is ours.

Enough already with this shit bird. He catches 1/10th of the flack EE gets and sucks 10 times worse.

I've always thought he burns himself out on his sprint to the mound. I'm not really sure why he'd expend so much energy on a 60 yard dash.

On a positive note, Bailey had a strong outing. Maybe he can get his shit together, move Fogg to the pen, and dump fat ass.

Quite frankly, as bad as Coffey has pitched, it's shocking the coaching staff hasn't forced him to take his time to the mound.

As shitty as he has been, would it be terrible to ask him to walk to the mound like 99% of the relievers do?

He wants to get his exercise he should have to chase down some of those lasers he serves up every time he's out there.

Taguchi? Are you fucking kidding me?

And while we are on the topic of shit that makes no sense....I thought we had seen the last of the middle inning defensive replacement for Dunn when we'll need his bat later strategy when Miley and Moron left town. Guess not. Sure was nice to see Juan "bat of a small child" Castro up there in the 8th instead of Dunn.

I wish on his sprint, he would sprint to the pitcher's mound and then make an immediate 90 degree turn to the left and head straight into the dugout and then on to the showers without throwing a pitch.

What a waste of stirrup-socks this guy is.

I like how during the rain delay they were talking about Josh Fogg coming over from Colorado, and they said that we could expect a bump in performance since he's not pitching at Coors Field anymore. They commented, "Just about anywhere he goes is going to be an easier place to pitch than Coors Field was."

Not when you suck, it's not.

This teams problems scoring in prime situations continue. Bases loaded, no outs... 1st & 3rd, one out... You have to TRY to not score in some of these situations. How many times can you ground out to the effing pitcher?

On a positive note... Jared Burton really struggled this spring and made people wonder if he was really the kind of pitcher we thought we might be getting after the way he performed in the second half of last season. Tonight was a fine outing for him. 2 IP, 0 H, 4 K. The Reds really need him to keep that up, especially with the way guys like Fogg, Affeldt and Coffey are bound to pitch.

Mental weakness.

This team has consistently over the years found a way to fail at the critical juncture. I know they hit some walk off HR's and such but overall if you watch they almost always fuck up in the critical spots.

This deeply ingrained .05 team head is the biggest thing that has to be overcome by Dusty imo. Some of the talent is here and there is more on the way. It won't matter if the kids learn to choke from the vets.

Phillies 8, Reds 4: Utley hot streak continues vs. Reds

By Joe Kay

ASSOCIATED PRESS

CINCINNATI -- Chase Utley kept the ball from his second homer, the one that landed in the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen and set the game on its final course. This one needed a keepsake.
Utley extended his hitting tear against the Cincinnati Reds into a new season last night, driving in three runs with two homers that set up an 8-4 victory and brought him to a personal milestone.

I almost wonder if Baker pulled Dunn for not sprinting to first on a couple of routine flyballs. Seems like the kind of thing he might do.

As for Coffey, I've never seen a major league pitcher groove as many 0-2 or 1-2 pitches. It's unbelievable. He's got the "stuff" but his head is fucked beyond any use at this point.
