Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

I saw this posted on RedsZone. If/when this season starts circling the bowl, I'll just think back to this gem of a lineup and remind myself that things could've been worse. This was actually a real lineup in a major league game - on opening day no less - 10 years ago.

Read 'em and weep:

Chris Stynes lf
Jon Nunnally rf
Willie Greene 3b
Eduardo Perez 1b
Reggie Sanders cf
Eddie Taubensee c
Bret Boone 2b
Pokey Reese ss
Mike Remlinger p

Yikes! :yow1:
Eduardo Perez batting cleanup? Hey, I did see him smack a pinch hit homerun to win the game for the Cardinals at a game at Busch back in '02.

AZ up 3-0 in the top of the 3rd.

Unearned run in the first after error by EE and wild pitch. Now 2 solo homers in the top of the 3rd by Chris Young and Eric Byrnes.

Haven't done anything against Webb in the first two frames.

Glad to see some baseball back...

We had 3 bad pitches today that the DBacks did work on...

Would be nice to see us get the bats going here in the late innings...

If you only give up 3 a game this lineup will produce more than that on a relatively consistent basis I think....

However, Corey Patterson is NOT a leadoff hitter and never will be. Better yet, HE should be in the 2 hole (he's a decent bunter as they showed on FSN Ohio) and let Keppinger lead-off.....

Just an idea.....

I'd put it something like this:

1. Keppinger

2. Patterson/Norris/whomever the centerfielder du jure is...

3. Phillips

4. Dunn

5. Griffey

6. EE

7. Votto/Hatteburg

8. Catcher of the week until Ross comes back

9. Pitcher's spot

And if the pitcher is Arroyo or Harang, I'd think about swapping the 8 and 9 spots if the catcher has to be Paul Bako and the noodle he swings instead of a wooden baseball bat....

Just an outside observation......

.02:

-Anyone notice the sacrifice by Dunn that plated our second run?

man on 3rd, no one out and he's up there swinging at a ball a foot outside, rolls over on it and has a weak grounder to the right side. This was not the 9th inning of a 1 run game, this was early in a game, playing at home and no one was out. Our power hitter is up there not trying to see some pitches he could mash but looking to sacrifice himself.

If that was the fruit of Dusty's no base clogging mantra its going to be a very long season.

-Also nice to see an old school, fundamentals first manager watch Nacho Libre turn a double into a single by not hustling and the pitcher fail to get a sac bunt down with Nacho on first.

-Refreshing to see wristbands also hasn't changed that fabulous team culture of kicking the ball around at least once or twice a game. Hell these guys are so good they can spot the other team a run or two per game, it won't hurt.

-First of at least 81 more losses.
