D-backs get Dunn from Reds for three prospects

ESPN.com news services

Updated: August 11, 2008, 2:46 PM ET

The Arizona Diamondbacks added a big bat Monday in their attempt to hold off the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West race.

Arizona acquired Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Dunn, who is tied for the major league lead with 32 home runs, for three prospects.
The trade was first reported by KTAR Radio in Phoenix.

In exchange for Dunn, Cincinnati will receive minor league pitcher Dallas Burk and two other players to be named later.

No, the 74 shit-heels Krivsky paid before they were DFA'ed for one reason or another are the reason the team has no money.

Dunn's bat is not replaceable, at any price, and he's only going to get better in the coming three/four seasons.

You know what's going to suck? Once Dunn and Griffey run out their contracts, you know they're going to sign with the fucking Nationals as free agents and go on to win the World fucking Series.

It has to happen.

Disagree.

Why not get something for Dunn before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season?

How many titles has he helped us win with that bat?

Good move, especially since this season is a wash.

Well, we got a guy who has good potential, but is rehabing from Tommy John Surgery. If we would have kept Dunn we would have gotten atleast a 1st Round sandwich pick for him b/c he is a Type A free agent. Time will tell who else we got, but for right now it doesnt look like a good trade at all.

I truly loved adam Dunn and his numbers...Guys were bashing him at the game the other night, and I had to stick up for him...

But this is what rebuilding is all about...This was what we needed, to clean house and start from the bottom...We now have young guys to build around...Pitchers and some hitters...We have a guy that could compete for the cy young in coming years, and a guy that could compete for the MVP...

I also think that this opens room up for guys like Stubbs, Frazier, Alonso, Soto, Cumberland, Dorn, Waring, Franscisco, Heisey, etc. in the coming years...

Dunn and Griffey were not taking this team anywhere, the numbers were great, but it was just time IMO...

Lets just hope that we get a little bit back in return from the two PTBNL...

Buck couldn't be the center piece of the trade...No way...He has 3/4/5 stuff if he gets it back, but he is a groundball pitcher, which is best for GABP...

Let me also add, that this totally tanks this season, and we will get a top 3 pick in next years draft to add to the talent in the minors that will be ready in the next couple years...

Walt knows what he is doing...He built a contendor in STL, and give him time to do it here, we all claimed for Bowden and WK to do it, but they kept falling into the trap that we were a player away...Well guess what we finally got a guy, that wasn't that stupid...

Good luck to the Donkey, glad he got out. This franchise and a lot of its fans disn't deserve him.

Team Brenaman might gets it wish and have Norris Hopper and Ryan Freel manning two of the OF spots. That should produce enough scrapiness, bunts and dirty uniforms to get us to the World Series.

It's a sad day in my house. He was one of my favorite Reds ever, and he was my girlfriend's favorite player. I have tickets to a game in the Brewers series in September, and I don't think we'll be going now. The Reds can't replace him in free agency, and the probably won't sign Alonso to boot.

At least there's some ping pong on TV now, so I don't have to watch this garbage.

A 24 year old A-ball pitcher coming off of Tommy John surgery?! If this is the centerpiece of the return, it'll go down as a bigger debacle than Krivsky's trade.

I was down at the stadium earlier today watching my friend play with is fellow fantasy campers. I didn't realize they were auditioning old fat guys to play LF.

I have to say that it cool as shit that they let the guys do that. I can't say they looked any worse than the Reds and I got to sit in the Diamond seats for free.

As for Dunn, I'm just pissed they didn't pull the trigger years ago when they actually could have gotten something for him. The problem is compounded with a lack of free agents on the market this winter. If Rocco Baldelli were to stay healthy the rest of this year, he might be worth a look. Otherwise, I guess Walt will have to do some trading.
