Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

I will disagree with this...He was very unlucky last night...His last two runs were given up on a ball that was a routine grounder, that he tried to make a play on and it went into right field off his glove...

He has shown that he has stuff to get big league hitters out, it is just not consistent enough in terms of location...

Reminds me of a younger Kyle Lohse...

The dude's like 0-6 or 0-7 what else do you expect?

The guy will never a good big league pitcher.

Just grooves too many pitches into the wheelhouse of hitters.

From eSPN.com
" failed to last six innings for the third start in a row. In those three games, the 22-year-old rookie has allowed 30 hits and 16 runs in 12 1/3 innings"

I was listening to the 2nd inning on my way back to work after lunch. I don't think I've ever heard Marty so depressingly down on them. He's usually down on them in a mean way where you kind of know he just wishes it was like the 70s again......but this was like he's finally given up all hope for any future that could have a winning Red's ballclub.

They were discussing AA and A players that needed to be brought up. It was kind of sad.

When Marty gives up that's all bad. I think the whole state has given up on the Reds. I almost there throwing in the towel:sad:

He is 22, he could just be graduating college and he would be a top 10 pick...

He has shown that he has stuff to get guys out...It isn't him grooving pitches, it is when he misses his spots and can't locate the offspeed stuff...

BTW if the ball doesn't bounce off his glove he probably goes 6 last night...

Also that is a bold statement saying a 22 year old won't ever be a good big league pitcher...You think Ranger fans were saying that about Volquez last year, when he wasn't putting up good numbers?

Dispatch

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker made it clear the other day he isn't satisfied with the team he was given when he took the job last winter.
"I have never wanted to win more than I do right here, and I will," he said. "But this is (former general manager) Wayne Krivsky's team, not (current GM) Walt Jocketty's and not mine. I just hope there is enough out there after the season that we can get to help us."

At least Voloquez had some wins!

Bailey's fastball is barely 90 mph this season, Volquez throws some smoke at least making his off-speed pitches more effective.

Do you know what Homer Bailey and I have in common, we both have the same amount of Major League wins this season, 0.

I think Bailey was up around 94-95 the other night against the Nationals. Of course, that sorry excuse for a franchise still smacked the living shit out of him.

And you have as many clutch hits as Corey Patterson, and as many holds and saves as Todd Coffey.

You should try out next spring! :tongue2:

Of all of my years following the Reds, I believe Todd Coffey is the player I most despise over that period of time.

And that's saying something.

I'd have to go with the Jimmy's. Either Haynes or Anderson take your pick.

Just got this book. It brings back some good memories on some pages and makes me want to pound my head against the walls on others.

Sometimes you gotta look past the wins and loses...He has had three games only giving up 2 or 3 ER...Very easily could of been wins...

Not sure if you remember the game against hte Rockies when he gave up 14 singles, but some of those balls were in the hole, and a better defender gets to them...Teams have not been killing the ball off of him, they have been getting single after single...

He hit 96 in his last start, his velocity is up some...

I just don't understand all the hate towards Homer Bailey, He was rushed to the big leagues to fast, now lets let him gain some confidence and things will hopefully get on track for him...

He just needs to work on hitting his spots, and stop missing in the zone and he will be alright...

What Homer needed was some fucking run support and a manager with a functioning brain cell through his first 3 starts. He's over-throwing and grooving pitches now because he realizes the hitters and defenders behind him are fucktards (except Brandon Phillips -- he's still awesome with the leather).
