Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

When Roy Oswalt sold his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal and absolute domination over an opposing baseball team, why did he choose the Reds and not some other team that actually matters.

Yet another meaningless 4-run home run from Adam Dunn last night I see.

He's a worthless sack of crap.

NL rankings:
*T-1st in homers
*T-8th in RBI
*1st in BB
*13th in OBP
*11th in SLG
*9th in OPS
**T-35th in runs (as the 6 hitter)

*Leads team among qualifying players
**2nd on team

HOWEVER, he is 5th in the NL in K's. Clearly a bum. I'd rather see Norris Hopper or Ryan Freel. If they would just get rid of Dunn, maybe this team might finally be good offensively.

He's only on a pace for 45 HR, 109 RBI, 115 BB, and 84 R. :roll1:

What makes the whole Roy Oswalt-thing ridiculous is that he's a fastball-pitching righty. You'd think the Reds lineups of the past 5 years would routinely rock him.

They SHOULD trade him now. there is no way they are going to resign him unless something else happens or ownership decides it wants him at 18-20 mil per after this season.

His value will never be higher.

Oh, I absolutely agree they need to do one or the other.

If I'm Adam Dunn, there's no way in hell I'm resigning with this outfit. The fans ride him harder than anyone else on the team. The announcers ride him harder than anyone else on the team. I don't see him being much worse in the field than Griffey at this point, but Griffey doesn't take a tenth of the criticism Dunn does. Putting up those kinds of numbers and still taking the abuse he takes? Fuck that.

If his mindset is anything like that, you have to trade him. Someone, somewhere needs the offense. Hopefully it is someplace with fans that might actually appreciate, despite his shortcomings, what he does bring to the team.

I heard on the radio that all broadcasters have been banned from the player's lounge and dining area now. Talk about a dick move. They need to stop worrying about what is said in the booth and start worrying about what they are doing on the field. Funny thing is that the other night my dad and I were just talking about how cool it was of Griffey to give a kid his helmet after the hit a HR (apparently he made a deal with the kid before the game that he'd do it if he hit one). Sad to see him get into a pissing match with Brantley.

I agree that it is time for Griffey and Dunn to go. They need to remake this team with speed and defense. In the post-steroid era, that is what will win ball games.

Love to see him rejoin Josh Hamilton in Texas. I'd become a Ranger fan if he did that and they'd have some serious pop in the middle of that lineup! I dont think the Rangers have anything to give us in trade and I'm not sure they could afford him in the offseason, but he'd be going home and play for some fans that would definitely appreciate what he brings to the lineup. I hope we resign him, but if not the Rangers are where I'd love to see him go.

Would love to see us swing a deal...Then throw the season under the bus and let the young guys finish out the season and get some experience...

The young position players sure....but they should back off on Cueto and Volquez for the rest of the season....don't wear them out and whatnot....

Glad to see Volquez get it going again. What the hell was up with Kepp?

Dunn- spectacular month of July!

Something disgusting about Dunns month: Going into last nights game-

23 hits in 75 at bats for a .307 batting average, 14 runs, 10 hr's, 24 rbi's, 10 bb's, 17 k's, .386 obp, .733 slugging.

After last night and tonight:

26 for 84, .310; 16R, 12HR, 26 RBI, 10 BB, 19K's, .383 obp, .800+ slugging. OPS - +1180!

Whats seriously wrong with this picture? Dunn has only scored 16 runs this month. He's driven himself in 12 of those times! WTF?!?!? Start to imagine if you will a power hitting right hander in the 5 hole with Dunn in the 4. What kind of numbers could he put up in a year? Pitiful. No production from that part of the order except Votto and E5 but they scare absolutely no one. The horse has a hole in it by now its beaten so much but I just cant help but want to vomit when I see those numbers.

Not signing Dunn would be one of the worst things the Reds have done in my lifetime. He needs coverage in the lineup with a quality righty. Sell off the rest of em and get that done Walt! We arent going to win this season so start making the moves. Jr's salary will give us a ton of cap space so lets see if we can actually spend it on someone who can help, not a bunch of [censored]heels stealing a paycheck.

BTW, I did see the dropped fly ball by Dunn but I'll take that once in a while if he's going to hit the way he is consistently.

Goodbye Jr.

I loved your dad as a player, and I loved you as a player too when you were with Seattle -- not so much with Cincinnati. Wish it would've worked out better, but sometimes shit happens and life isn't fair.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. About damn time.
