Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports Griffey to CF, Swisher at 1B, and Konerko to the bench.

The White Sox just traded for a 10-time Gold Glove winner and managed to make their defense worse. :!

From looking at stats the relief pitcher is not at all what we need here...Horrible WHIP, walks lots of guys, doesn't have high k numbers...

And WTF do we need the 2B for...He is not a speed guy with 1 SB on the season...Hitting .230, OB at less than .300 and SlG barely over .400...

I know it is his rookie season, but these are not guys that you need in return...We would of been better off to ask for a bag of baseballs...

My thoughts exactly.

So do the White Sox get to pay his contract through 2024 now? :tongue2:

What did anyone think we were going to get for JR straight up?

As long as we didn't have to pay them to take him its a plus in my book.

Yeah I knew we weren't going to get anything great...But I would rather of seen a prospect or two instead...I hear that some whitesox fans are upset about Masset leaving so we will see...Some call him the weakest link in the pen...

Maybe the Reds could be serious about putting Phillips at SS, with bring in richar, but Valaika is going to be the better option at 2B IMO...

Either way I agree, it was great to see someone take his contract, and I am all for holding onto Dunn unless we get 2 prospects that would be like we would get in the draft for him, and there is always the chance of trying to hold onto him in the offseason...

The trend in MLB is moving away from giving up decent prospects whenever possible. People are really waking up to the need to grow your own talent.

If BP goes to SS we have the worlds supply of guys already in house that would be good at 2B. Seems like organizational depth(in the minors) to me but who knows.

At this point I'm completely torn on the Dunn issue and glad I'm not the one who has to make that call. I personally am not so sure he's part of the losing culture and there is no debating how much of our offense he represents. Draft picks or prospects aren't going to make that up by 2009.

OTOH, maybe the payflex allows us to improve the aggergate team even if we go backwards offensively in LF.

Tough call.

Yeah I agree...You just always hope for something better in return...:tongue2:

As for the Dunn issue I am with you...I like the idea of him being here another 1-2 years until we have someone from in house ready to patrol LF...Also you have the money factor...The chance to get 2 prospects...

I know his numbers aren't numbers that can be had from just one guy, but hopefully with another year for BPhil, Bruce, Votto, EE, they are ready to take on more...Also we should be much better defensively next year without Griffey in the outfield and maybe Dunn...

I still like the idea of Bruce, defensive CF, and maybe hairston...Unless we go FA in LF...

I wonder if Rosales could play some 1B and we could see Votto get his early move to the OF...Valaika is another guy that could see a move to the outfield...Dorn, Henry, Cumberland are other guys...We shall see...

This deal is more about the Reds getting help unloading Griff's salary and less about the players they got in return.

Plus, it will be nice to see Griff get a shot in the postseason, he deserves it.

The real kick in the nuts will be how Griff's career will be revitalized. Mark my words, assuming the Reds' luck is as it always is, Griff will be putting up insane number this time next year and you people will be cursing his name even more.

I hope so, he deserves to play for a contender. I may actually root for an AL team to win the WS this year.
But, if they plan on putting him in CF I think the injury bug will follow him to Chicago.

I'll root for a junior circuit team with Jr. to get to the World Series, never to win though...

So just to recap:

The owner says the losing stops now and fires the GM. The new GM comes in and takes months to evaluate the team in order to pull the blockbuster deal of.....trading Jr? Thats fucking it?

We're sitting here 13+ games out with the same band of fucktards we started with minus JR and thats supposed to fix something? We fucking pay someone to do this?

You're tired of losing Bob? This is how your boy Walt fixes it? Hey numbnuts - I can fucking do the job for 1/10th of what you have paid the last 2 GM's. I'll put polls for what I should do as GM on RZ and throw darts at a board and I guarandamntee you I'll do better. At least I'll goddamn do something.

Give me a fucking break. This is just typical of being a Reds fan. We suffer under an owner who doesn't want to win, now we get one that wants to win but can't figure out how. :sad2:
