Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

There you go. Dunner with #26 and E5 follows up with his 15th!

Better get your checkbooks ready if you're going to buy Adam Dunn AL!

We need to resign him. Yes his defense blows most of the time but you cannot replace 50HRs and 120 RBI's which he's on pace for. He's the only player on the Reds roster anywhere that makes opposing pitchers nervous. Freaking guy is on a monster of a tear and the damn All-Star break has to mess it up!

Looks like we're going for the sweep tomorrow against CC. I cant believe I just typed that. :!

3-3 split was forgiveable going into this weekend so I'd say it now looks halfway decent when it looked like it was going to be miserable the way it started.

I love it. Eric Gagne is the anti-Bill Hall. The Brewers should be forced to pitch him in every high-leverage situation against the Reds. About two to three years of that would about make up for what that scrub has done against the Reds.

Caught the end of the game and heard Thom Brennaman waxing optimistic about how the Reds are really setup for July/early August once they come back from the break. After opening with four against the Mets at home, they get San Diego, Colorado, @Houston, @Washington, Milwaukee, Houston, and @Pittsburgh in the run-up to mid August before the next series (back-to-back) with the Cards and the Cubs. That's six of eight series against teams that are worse-than-the-Reds awful.

However, after rattling off the schedule, Thom then mentions that the Reds are above .500 vs teams with winning records, but well below .500 vs teams with losing records (we call those teams the Pittsburgh Pirates).

So yeah ... without saying it, Thom pretty much said, "The Reds have a slate of cupcakes coming up after the break, but don't get your hopes up as this gaggle-fuck of idiots will figure out a way to win 3 of 4 vs the Mets and inch right up to .500 (again), just in time to get swept by teams like Houston and Pittsburgh, finally driving that stake through the heart of the 2008 season."

At least, that was my interpretation.

I didn't hear him but that seems a pretty fair assesment.

If it weren't for the fucking Pirates and Dodgers we'd probably be leading the WC chase.

Reds 8Brewers 2
Dunn's two homers, four RBI lift Reds

Dayton Daily News

MILWAUKEE -- Jerry Hairston Jr. is not only a catalyst, he is a catalytic converter, and what he does for the Cincinnati Reds is cataclysmic.
Number sometimes lie, can be construed any way the interpreter wants, but Hairston's are dead, solid platinum.
He had four hits and scored three runs in Miller Park last night to help the Reds bury the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2, helping Edinson Volquez to his 12th victory.
Adam Dunn contributed mightily with two homers and four RBI.
How important is Hairston?

Well I am officially pulled back in...

Everytime I say today is a big game we lose, so I am not going to say that...

What I am going to say is I really hope that Homer has good stuff this time around...

I said it after the Nats series about the second half being easier, and if we could get it together in these two series that we would be back in it...

We have won 7 out of 9...We don't get to say that too often...

I think another important thing to note is the fact that the Reds are getting better results on the road. They won the last road trip (interleague) and are 3-2 so far on this one, earning a split at worst. As of right now, they are playing .400 baseball on the road for the year - which is still bad - but a vast improvement over the way they started off the year.

On the broadcast last night, Thom was noting how favorable the upcoming schedule is after the ASB. The Reds will get the Mets at home, and then a healthy dose of the Astros, Rockies, Padres, Nationals & Pirates. Granted, the Reds have sucked out loud against bad teams this year, but on paper the schedule lines up very favorably through the rest of July and all of August for the Reds to get over .500.

I am glad that the Reds are playing well enough to seemingly prevent a total demolition of the team outside of Bruce, Volquez & Cueto. I don't think that's what the Reds need. I think the Reds will be able to contend next year by keeping the team mostly intact, and making the most of opportunities to get rid of bad contracts and dumb players. I think they should still be sellers if the right opportunity presents itself. I think the Reds need to re-sign Dunn after the season. I still think his defense is embarrassing, but I don't think the Reds can come close to replacing his bat. They need to mitigate the impact of Dunn's poor defense by improving the defense around him, particularly in CF and SS.

I would be for moving Dunn if we could find a replacement in Free agency, and we get a good return...

I think Dunn will ask to much in the offseason compared to what I think we should pay him...

I also think that Arroyo is expendable with Bailey and Thompson on the cusp of being ready and you have Maloney that is probably deserving of a shot and Livingston has been throwing well in his rehab starts...

Then i would get rid of Griffey...

Dumb Valentine, re tool the pen a little and go young...

No reason to move Harang, Phillips, IMHO...Unless a team would offer the farm for them...

If we can go 16-11 or better in our next 27 with the only series being against winning teams being the Mets and Brewers...

We would probably be ready in the STL series to try and over take them for the wildcard lead if they still have the lead at that time...

I think right now the teams to watch in terms of the wild card are Milk, STL, LAD, and NYM...
