Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

I'm always tuned in when I'm on here, but I wouldn't mind this being a game thread. I don't always get to catch the games live, and even when I am tuned in I like to participate with a little play-by-play. It's how I like to watch the game - kinda like people who keep score along with the game. It would be nice to have that here. I like reading RedsZone, but don't really feel like trying to impress the right people to gain entry to the good boards.

yeah, I know what you mean. Even though I'm technically in the club over there I'm not in the click. They are true elitist bastards :wink2:.

Regardless, lets try and make this more a game thread unless anyone says otherwise. We'll see who's got the worse delay if nothing else.

I like the game thread feel of this...It just sucks at times when we have nothing to talk about other than us sucking...

Bruce is going to be so good...Next time he is up, just listen to the ball hit the bat...Don't even watch it...Even the balls he fouls off, or his outs...That ball he hit to center was stung, and sounded good, but was just right at someone...That ball he hit done the line was absolutely stung as well...

I know this isn't going to last forever, but his ability to sting the ball is amazing to watch...I would love to watch him in bp...

Lost in the fact that Bruce and the offense is playing so well is Arroyo putting together another solid outing...

Arroyo is giving the Reds exactly what they need on the mound with the way that 18-inning game threw everything out of whack.

6 IP, 1 ER, 6 Ks. 97 pitches. I think he might be good for one more. Apparently Dusty thinks so too - he comes to bat and sacrifices.

I'd like to see the Reds pile on a few more runs. Their bullpen has done pretty well since Gorzelanny left the game, and I'd like to see them wear 'em down a little bit more. So far, they're getting by on almost minimal effort for having to pitch 8.1 innings.

I'm starting to come around on Hairston. He's swinging a hot bat, and drives in another Reds run. I'm not sure he really has a defensive position that I like him at, but you can't argue with what he's doing with his at-bats right now. His stats say that he'll come back to earth, but you gotta get the most out of him while he's producing. If and when that happens, hopefully Keppinger will be healthy again and they can plug him into that spot.

What Jay Bruce is doing so far is beyond human. I didn't even get on base at this rate playing kickball as a kid.

sometimes a guy just clicks into a hitting position, I always enjoyed leading off because my job was to just see as many pitches as possible, to me it was easy.

Maybe its one of those things, where Dusty stumbles into something and it just fits Haristons mentality. Who knows? If we found a true above average leadoff man we'd be in business.

I'm jealous.
I am too. Although, to be honest, Indians have Sizemore who is amazing. Pirates just straight up don't have anyone in their farm system or in the big leagues who will be as good as Bruce will be.

But, the Pirates can't really complain about that. They took Andrew McCutchen right before the Reds took Jay Bruce. Cutch is going to play in the big leagues, and he should be a solid player. But, he has been inconsistent in the minors (Rough year in AA last year), and Bruce has just been amazing in the minors.
