Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

We are just missing those pitches right now. An inch or two more onto the ball and we're in business.

Lohse helping himself. Lets go with a little rally here in the next two innings.

WTF was that? Bunt with two outs? Freel is having an awful go at it right now.

That's what the great ones do. Get hitters to "just miss."

Not a good thing there...But that was an outstanding effort play by him to get that out...Hopefully it is just a hyperextension...

Hell he is going to stay in...What a tough SOB...

Man its early in the season I don't want him getting seriously hurt. He should just get it looked at as a precaution and sit the rest of the day out. Its a long season that will be even longer without Phillips.

I agree, I would of taken him out as well...It isnt like he is going to be able to swing a bat on offense to be able to help us...I was just merely pointing out that my first move with something like that would of been straight to the dugout...He wanted to stay in...It also helps for the double switch as well, but that was a risk to take leaving him in there...

Another nice outing by Lohse, just not getting much run support...

Well I was wrong in thinking that Narron was leaving Phillips into so there could be a double switch, but I was wrong, b/c Narron is a moron and he hit Hopper and then put him in right field for one of the guys that would be able to put some runs on the board with one swing of the bat...

NICE! Stanton picks off the runner at first without even throwing a pitch.

That was really good, because my instinct was telling me that Berkman was good for a 3-run bomb there.

Oswalt's finally out of the game, hopefully the Reds can take advantage and pull this one out

Griffey-Gonzalez-Dunn. Other than Hamilton, that's about the best the Reds can ask for coming to the plate in this situation.

-Fuck!!!

I have to begrudgingly say though, that it seems Dunn has gotten a little bit of a spark batting lower in the order. He isnt producing with runners on so why bat him at the top anyway, right? Unfortunately the smart money says "go with what works" and we have a dumbass who won't sit still long enough to find out just what works: read Narron.

What works isnt always the same thing and if I were a major league manager I'd hire a Roto nerd to break down the statistics for me. Look at the way Narron moves his lineups around, no rhyme or reason. At least put players in position to succeed on a daily basis, even if it is unconventional. I'd bet that there's a few guys out there right now that can tell you what each player on the Reds roster has OPS'd for the past 6 weeks with runners in scoring position, and for the past 2 years against certain pitchers. I'd also be willing to bet that none of that shit is going to be predicated on the lineup being RLRLRL. If it does then at least know which righties to bat in the correct R position in the lineup and the same for the lefties. On that note tonights lineup wasnt awful. I might put Hamilton in Hattebergs position but like some wise soul said earlier today, "its Oswalt so the lineup doesnt matter." You'll have that I guess.
