Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

They highest he's ever played is A ball, I've heard him refered to as a rookie by broadcasters but not 100% sure on it.

For MLB and ROY status he is indeed a rookie. I was referring to what his rookie card was. Two completely different things.

Card collectors are a universe unto themselves. The arbitrary nature of what a guys "rookie" card is, has led to a serious decline in the popularity of baseball cards among collectors. Most prefer football now. NBA cards and, believe it or not golf cards, are also pretty big anymore.

Belisle twirls 5-hitter
Retires first 16 batters before yielding 1st hit to Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH - Matt Belisle was good in his first two starts and bad in his next two.
How did he bounce back Saturday?
Well, for the longest time, he was perfect. Belisle retired the first 16 batters he faced on his way to an 8-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates before a crowd of 29,514 at PNC Park.

Reds notebook
LHP Cormier first casualty in the bullpen
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]
1x1.gif

PITTSBURGH - The Reds made a potentially very costly move Saturday to upgrade their bullpen.
The club designated left-hander Rheal Cormier for assignment and called up right-hander Brad Salmon from Triple-A Louisville.
The Reds have 10 days to trade or release Cormier. If they cannot trade him - and they've been trying to do so since spring training - they will have to pay him the remainder of his $2.25 million salary for this year and a $500,000 buyout on next year's option.

OK, Reds guys... question for ya.

I've got Hamilton on my fantasy team and the problem I'm having with him is not knowing for sure if he's gonna play. He's played every game this past week, even against lefties, so it looks like Narron wants to have him be an everyday guy. Yes? Can I simply put him in my line-up and forget about him? Cause that's what I wanna do, but I'm never sure he's gonna play again. Take today, for example, I'm sitting him against the Pirates because I figure he's played every game this week and is due for a day off. And, it pisses me off, cause if he starts, he might as well go Yard twice and score 3 runs...

So, anyway... any of you guys that keeps up to speed on the Reds a lot more than I do... any ideas what the plan is with JH? Thanks in advance.

I would assume that hamilton plays everyday day while jr. is down with whatever the desease of the day is. Narron is playing whoever he thinks is batting well and he is going to ride them until they stop hitting that includes Josh Hamilton.
The kid is an everyday player.

With Narron as the manager you never know who will play, and who will bat in what position...

Sunday morning stat rundown, team NL rank(16 teams) and raw number

Runs scored:10th, 100 runs, 4.17 gm
Runs Allowed:7th, 104 runs, 4.33 gm (1st is worst)

Everything else is just conversation, if you allow more than you score over 162 games you will need a ton of luck to break .500.

Offense
OBP: 13th, .316
SLG: 9th, .383
BB: 10th, 83
Hits: 14th, 190
HR: 5th, 24
SB: 3rd, 19

The first 2 are the most important. We are doing a lousy job of not making outs and only a slightly better than lousy job of doing some damage when we do not make an out. Walks are way down and you can see the dumbass, impatient hacking up and down the order. The numbers simply illustarte what we can all see so far, the offense sucks balls.

Pitching
OBAgainst:3rd, .309
SLGA: 6th, .387
BB: 16th, 54 (16 is best)
Earned Runs Allowed: 12th, 89 (16 is best)
Hits Allowed:T8th, 212
HR: 12th, 17 (16 is best)
ERA: 6th, 3.75

Again, no big suprises. Starting pitching has been superb, bullpen fair to bad. We are making the other team make outs, not giving up walks and not giving up HR's. If the defense would help out we'd be in terrific shape in overall run prevention. Unfortunately....

Defense
Runs allowed: 104
Earned runs allowed: 89
Diff: -15, worst in the NL

Achillies heel detected and was supposed to be one of our strengths coming into the season.

Overall you can trace the struggles to a supposedly improved defense and bullpen still sucking eggs to go with a community slump to start the year from all of our RH hitters not named Conine. Good news is all of these seem like they should work themselves out as the season wears on except for maybe the pen. There is still an overall talent issue there imo.
