Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Just got a glimpse of the lineup for today. Same as opening day with Valentin in to catch for Ross.

Guess we'll see what Lohse can do with his new approach and all that movement Narron is always yapping about. This is a big start for us in terms of setting the standard for the bottom of the roation. Here's to hoping!

Being good isn't enough
Arroyo decent in debut, but Cubs' Lilly flummoxes Reds
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

Bronson Arroyo wasn't bad Wednesday night. But he would have had to be a whole lot better to beat Ted Lilly.
Lilly, in his Chicago Cubs debut, held the Reds to one run on three hits over seven innings in a 4-1 Cubs victory before 25,965 on a cold night at Great American Ball Park.
"We got beat by a better starter tonight," Arroyo said. "Lilly threw a hell of a game."

Hey Guys just got back from vacation. Missed OD and The NC game but kept up via internet on my phone best I could.

On the surface these first 3 games looks like it could be a preview of the season to come. Better pitching, better D, offense sputters 2 out of 3.

We shall see.

Offense finally decided to show up. Hattie with 2-run shot for 5-2 lead. Going to top of 9th.

Two errors by outfielders today. Swell. :smash:

Good way to start the season...If we can take 2 out of 3 agains the likes o the Cubs, Stros, and Cardinals we will have a successful season...

Also Narron was in rare form when he really took that right, left, right thing real serious when he had Cormier throw 1/3, Sarloos 1/3, and Stanton 1/3 of inning in the 8th...

I don't mind that if he uses them in the correct spots. You have a 6-7 man pen for a reason, don't go down with any bullets left in the gun.

Last year numbnuts was using his lefty-one-out-only-guy to pitch to multiple hitters and other such crazy shit.

I guess it can be smart, but it is just annoying how much Jerry loves his right-left-right theory...

We took the series with the Cubs so all isnt bad. Freel, Griff, Phillips and EE all had a bad series. We still won 2 games. Chalk that up to starting pitching. Good job by Lohse today and Arroyo pitched well also. Harang is just starting his Cy Young campaign I guess.

All that being said, we're in big trouble. Most of you guys have already hit on it being Narron. The worst thing that could happen this month is that his stupid little "niches" he's built into this ball club will succeed. I almost vomitted when I saw Conine at first base. WTF!!!! I knew that was coming when he had a pinch hit single. Hatteberg is a cluch hitter with occasional but not frequent power. Dont take him out while he could be starting a streak. The lineup thing should make every Reds fan in creation to email Bob C 10 times each. I know they give Narron a lot of control over who plays and whatnot but how do they expect us to get on a winning streak when nobody knows what tomorrow is going to bring with this dumbass? The bullpen will be ok. I think Burton will be great once he settles down and the same with Coffey, who was just throwing strikes when he got in there.

The personnel look fine, believe it or not, excepting the shortage of quality backups. The management is fucking atrocious!!!!:(

Hatteberg is the only player on this team, and really the only guy to wear a Reds uniform since Larkin retired, that can work a pitch count. I love guys that can work a 10-pitch walk. He makes the hitters around him better because pitchers can't stand facing him. This lineup needs one more bat like his, or at least someone to develop some more plate discipline.

EE will get there

Hamilton supposedly has great plate discipline

Dunn has a fantastic eye and takes a ton of pitches. His problem is he won't sit there and foul off the borderline pitches, he takes them and gets called out on strikes.

The only real hacker left from the Jimbo era is Griffey who has been a first ball swinger his entire career. The bat has slowed down enough now that everyone notices how quickly he gets behind in the count and how often his ABs end in 4 pitches or less.
