Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Thats not bad either. Hatte is a decent #2. I like Phillips speed at the top, but I'd take Hatte there to put Dunn where he belongs. I don't get how Narron plans to use Phillips "speed" in the 3 hole. I read a quote from him about that. WTF, with Dunn's stellar base running and mad speed in front of him?? I wish you could hear the local Cincy sports radio guys pick his ass apart every morning. It is some truly funny shit. Almost as funny as Brantley nearly laughing his ass off at Dunn trying to bunt the other day to "prove" that he can be a #2 hitter. I thought JB was going to drop a WTF right their on the air. He actually thought it was a good idea to bunt in that situation, it was just laughable that Dunn was put in that spot.

If that dumb cocksucker actually has Adam Dunn bunt at any time this year I can not be held responsible for my actions.

Me? I say:

Freel-our only true leadoff hitter
Hatte-his only real skill is OBP and working deep counts, use it here, let Dunn see everything the pitcher has
Dunn-I go with the theory your best hitter bats 3rd
EE-RBI guy
Griff-Still has some pop but isn't a #3
Phillips
Ross
Gonzalez
P

Hey Jerry, its even R-L-R-L numbnuts.

I really like this lineup...

I just would love to have #2 guys in the lineup that we could use the hit and run with Freel, but also has a little speed to lay down a bunt and beat it out and have just a little pop to hit the ball in the gaps and score Freel from first...

A guy like we had in Larkin...

I like Hatte in the 2 hole, but he doesnt have the speed...

I wonder where Narron will put Hamilton when he puts him in the lineup...

He'll lead off if playing for Freel or 5th when Griffey gets hurt. We keep talking about this as if Narron won't juggle his line up every day like he did last year.

Wait a minute, aren't Gonzalez and Ross both right-handed batters? That's two in a row! And if our pitcher that day bats right-handed, that's four right-handers in a row when you turn the lineup over. When Tony LaRussa and Lou Piniella find out about this, WE ARE FUCKED.

IMO you don't need speed in the 2 hole. I guess Jerry and I agree on this if he hits Dunn 2nd.

You need a guy adept at making contact, taking pitches, bunting, hit and run etc.. so your leadoff man is now a RISP for #3 and #4 to clean up. Negate Hatte's lack of power and speed and get a lot of "productive outs" from him. Side benefit is Dunn getting to see a lot of pitches before he steps in.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer a Larkin in the #2 spot but since we don't seem to have one lying around, Hatte is the best option to hit #2 on this team imo.

Yeah I agree with all of this, it is just best great if you can have a guy with all the tools in the 2 hole...

I would say I guy like Jeter would be an model for a 2 hole hitter...

A pair of aces
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

When the Reds decided to invest $61.5 million in new money to keep Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo in the fold through at least 2010, they were confident they were getting quality and quantity.
When it comes to pitching - particularly starting pitching - quantity is important.
"Innings," Reds manager Jerry Narron said. "Innings. That's No. 1. You get 470 some innings from two guys on your starting staff, that's pretty good."

Two hammers
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

Under general manager Wayne Krivsky, the Reds moved away from power and toward pitching and defense.
But it's still early in Krivsky's regime. Thus, there are remnants of what the Reds once were: The biggest banging team in the National League.
To wit: Not a lot of lineups have two guys who have combined for 761 career home runs, as the Reds do in Ken Griffey Jr. (563) and Adam Dunn (198).

Belisle is the 4th/5th starter. Milton is not scheduled to start this week. He is being evaluated by Dr K.

The rotation for the next couple of days is Harang, Arroyo, Lohse, Belisle and then back to Harang. So it looks like Belisle is officially the fifth starter, or maybe the fourth and we'll see who the fifth is. However, that rotation, Narron said, isn't "set in cement"

Per updates to link in my post above.

Also of note, the Reds may set the roster at 24 today, and make decision on the last spot tomorrow.

Not too shocked about Herm, given his last few outings. Probably will start the year with Stormy/Stanton closing and maybe Burton/Coffey get a shot.

Thank God.

Milty and Hermanson both weeded out. I now have a smidge more faith in Wayne K's ability than I did before.

Yep, Milty officially DL'd and Santos is not on the roster. Still have an open spot. Maybe Wayne is trying to swing a deal for a closer?

LINK

Not shocked about Santos, he pitched well but he has a track record. Not sure if he would accept minor league assignment or if they asked him to hang loose for a day while they make a decision.

The latest per Trent:

Official roster for OD is at 24 men.

Milton to DL

Santos not one of the 24 but is still obviously in play. Could be a trade for the 25th guy or they are using someone on a minor league contract they can send back down if/when Milty comes off the DL.
