Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

That's why I liked what Brantley said yesterday on the game about sending down both Belisle and Livingston for now. You don't really need a 5th guy to start the year, so why not let them get in a regular rotation and log some confident innings. That way they are sharp when Milton gets his brains beat in an you release him or somebody gets hurt. Also, allows you to keep Santos around who will probably refuse an outright option.

Only one of Santos and Hermanson can be on the roster b/c there is one spot left on the 40 man roster and they are 2 that are not on it yet. My guess is it goes to Hermanson and Santos gets left off...

I think that we will see Livingston logging his innings and Belisle who did pitch in winter ball has quite a few innings under his belt, so he will throw in the pen on the side and man the 5th spot when called upon...

Good catch, I forgot about the 40 being an issue. I guess that's assuming that Burton makes the staff.

I think at this point he will with both Bray and the Magic man not being on the opening day roster...

We have 28 guys going to Cincy right now and can only keep 25...

I believe that Countagalus(Sp?) is still there and we can only keep one of Santos and Hermanson...

Also I do believe that Dwayne Wise will get cut putting us at 25...

I would say the last spot is between Burton and Countagalus...

Upper hand going to Burton being the Rule 5 draftee...

One question I had on that...If Bray or Majewski were to come back in a month and they wanted to bring them up in place of Burton does that mean we would still have to option him back to Oakland?

Burton will have to stay on the roster all year or they have to offer him back to Oakland. If they optioned Belisle and Countlangus/traded Frenchie , they could keep Santos and Herm, unless there is an issue with the 40. I thought Wise was already optioned, if not he will be. Moeller will be on the roster.

Speaking of Moeller: I heard the rationalization for keeping him is to be able to use Valentin freely as PH. Guess that's a decent reason.

Lohse started the last exhibition game in Dayton today due to back problems for Uncle Milty. DL???? Would certainly help with the roster crunch.

I kew it was possible when they made him pitch a minor league game before the deadline which allowed them to start him out on the DL. Glad to see it was actually part of a plan and not dumb luck.

Bad back my ass, its his knees but whatever it takes to keep him off the mound I'm all for it.

I heard a little of the post game. They said it was back spasms. We'll find out soon enough what the actual plan is.

If they were to bring Livingston back up would that waste one of his options or not b/c we hadnt actually broke camp yet?

Not sure but I doubt it. They have all kinds of rules about making DL/roster moves retro.

Pretty good talk going around that he is indeed not injured, they are just buying time to decide what to do with him.

Trade cormier(sp?) and you can keep both Livingston and Coutlangus. Just sayin.

Sounds great to me...

OH BTW, here is the probable lineup from the Reds official site.

CFRyan Freel
LFAdam Dunn
2BBrandon Phillips
RFKen Griffey Jr.
3BEdwin Encarnacion
1BScott Hatteberg
SSAlex Gonzalez
CDavid Ross

Have I ever mentioned that I think Jerry Narron is literally 2 brain cells away from being legally retarded? You could draw the names from a hat and do better than that.

Put our two best hitters in the #2 and #5 holes respectively? Brilliant.:sick1: :sick1: :sick1:

Baseball guy say RLRLRL is the best way to make a line-up.

I'd bat Phillips in the 2 spot (he can move the runner) then you go Dunn, EE, Griff. Why screw up the first 6 innings of every game because they might bring in a reliever in the last 3 innings??? :smash:

Me? I say:

Freel-our only true leadoff hitter
Hatte-his only real skill is OBP and working deep counts, use it here, let Dunn see everything the pitcher has
Dunn-I go with the theory your best hitter bats 3rd
EE-RBI guy
Griff-Still has some pop but isn't a #3
Phillips
Ross
Gonzalez
P

Hey Jerry, its even R-L-R-L numbnuts.

Thats not bad either. Hatte is a decent #2. I like Phillips speed at the top, but I'd take Hatte there to put Dunn where he belongs. I don't get how Narron plans to use Phillips "speed" in the 3 hole. I read a quote from him about that. WTF, with Dunn's stellar base running and mad speed in front of him?? I wish you could hear the local Cincy sports radio guys pick his ass apart every morning. It is some truly funny shit. Almost as funny as Brantley nearly laughing his ass off at Dunn trying to bunt the other day to "prove" that he can be a #2 hitter. I thought JB was going to drop a WTF right their on the air. He actually thought it was a good idea to bunt in that situation, it was just laughable that Dunn was put in that spot.
